2015 E-Learning Awards


Alan Nelson Alan is managing director of Nelson Croom, and has been in the e-learning business for fifteen years. An educational publisher and entrepreneur, he has an interest in how people learn and has formed an expertise in producing online resources that change people’s attitudes and behaviours as well as impart knowledge. This is his fifth year as a judge.


His company is an E-Learning Awards winner in previous years and publisher of accountingcpd.net, a leading online CPD resource for accountants.


Laura Overton Laura is the managing director of Towards Maturity – a not for profit benchmark practice that provides independent research to help business deliver improved performance through learning innovation. Her work is based on 25+ years of practical experience looking at learning innovation for


business advantage. An international speaker and prolific writer, Laura has also won a number of


awards for service to the learning industry. In 2014 she was voted number one in the top ten most influential people in corporate e-learning in the UK, a position which she retained in 2015. She was also voted 5th in the Global List and 6th in the European list.


Howie Pearson Howie is an Independent Instructional Designer with over 15 years’ experience in E-Learning and Learning Technologies. In that time he has worked in the Private, Public and Third sectors producing high quality e-learning for companies based in the UK and abroad.


He’s really excited about the prospect of being a judge at this year’s


E-Learning Awards and looking forward to judging some high quality submissions.


Kathy Poole


After completing her Masters at Imperial College, Kathy has worked in a variety of sectors as both a consultant and an HR generalist. Her early career was spent in KPMG and CEDAR International. Latterly she moved to BA and was part of the core team that helped return the airline to profit


following 9/11. More recently she was HR Director for a private equity backed healthcare company, where she created the HR function. She is currently Head of People Services at Channel 4, where she has led an HR transformation.


Lesley Price Lesley’s passion for learning began nearly 30 years ago when she started lecturing in her local further education college. She has always had in interest in technology and quickly realised its potential to support and enhance learning. Since then Lesley has been responsible for


regional and national e-learning initiatives in both the education and corporate environments. During her career she held senior roles for the JISC, Becta and the Learning and Performance Institute (LPI). Lesley is an elected Board Member of the eLN and, since taking early retirement, now works part-time as a Senior Consultant for Learn Appeal.


Phil Reddall Phil is Learning Innovation Manager at AkzoNobel and Vice Chair of the eLN. Over 10 years’ L&D experience, his strategic experience across numerous clients in his previous LBPO role and past roles as head of instructional design within the e-learning industry have given him a really broad


perspective from both the buyer and supplier viewpoints. Phil is passionate about the efficient, effective, use of learning technology and innovation with a real focus on the business impact that can be achieved.


Keith Resseau


Keith is a digital learning consultant, sceptic and optimist. She has over 15 years’ experience working with emerging technologies and helping L&D professionals develop the skills and knowledge they need to design and deliver successfully for new media. Since joining PwC in 2007,


she’s concentrated on accelerating the firm’s use of virtual classroom, mobile and social learning as part of an overall blended approach to meeting business and performance objectives. This is her second year as a judge.


Linda Robson


Linda is a Lecturer in the Engineering and Innovation Department at The Open University. With 15 years of experience, she is an expert in teaching and learning online. She currently chairs a work based learning module, and has produced materials on topics ranging from computing to


sports science. Her research interests are in staff development, and support for students and staff with disabilities. Linda is a Senior Fellow of both the Staff and Educational Development Association and the Higher Education Academy. She is also an Executive Director of the Staff Development Forum. This is her second year as a judge.


Alan Samuel


Alan has been in the e-learning business for the last 15 years, working with off-shore and UK e-learning companies, Tata Interactive Systems and Upside Learning. As Head of the UK he was responsible for establishing their presence in the UK market and worked with a wide range of publishing


and blue chip corporate clients. Supporting clients and managing off shore development teams has given him a keen eye and understanding of effective design and implementation of e-learning solutions and the ability to deliver business benefit.


Jan Seabrook


Jan has three decades of experience in the design and development of training using all media, with particular experience in e-learning. E-learning applications in a wide range of industrial sectors include rail, aerospace, military, oil gas and nuclear energy, plus financial and professional


training. Jan has also worked on virtual reality applications and a large scale creation of a learning portal. Her particular strengths are the analysis of training needs (TNA), the selection and design of training strategies, detailed analysis of course content, interactive multimedia courseware design, and the management of training.
