Computer Modeling The two images to the right are example fi les from this project. The computer allows you to explore the car in all three axes, virtually tour- ing the design before printi ng the car.
The cars must be thoroughly cleaned before gluing or painting — ask me how I know. The print- ing process uses wax. Shapeways cleans the printed product, but
orientation within the equipment can change how some things in the design are rendered. It is im- portant to understand this. One car came to me with diagonal ridges on the sides and warped! Shapeways reprinted the car at no charge. The HO and S cars have very little rigidity. Weight strength- ens the car and corrects any warp the frame might exhibit. The N- scale cars don’t have this problem due to a different configuration.
