is seeing improvements in mar- bling scores and the ribeye area of his calves. To make genetic improvement,

Funk says he has relied on AHA’s indexes instead of single-trait EPD selection. He has added genomic testing in his herd management. All walking herd sires are DNA- tested and have genomic-enhanced EPDs (GE-EPDs). His plans are to expand DNA testing to females in the future. “AHA has taken a sound and

scientifi c approach to genomic test- ing,” he says. “With our whole herd program and the addition of ge- nomic testing, we are increasing accuracy for our breeders to make breeding decisions and are provid- ing commercial breeders with more reliability.”

produce females that are marketed as yearling heifers and a few young pairs plus carefully selected bulls for commercial producers. Funk and McMullin have been

PX Feeders is that the bulls are fed a forage-based ration. He also appreci- ates Donald Parrish, the lot owner, for his assistance with marketing the bulls. “On test at PX Feeders, the bulls

realize growth potential but they can still be turned out and go to work,” he adds.
