AND LAW ARRESTS

THEFT

Graham Livestock Commission and an employee of the market unloaded the cattle. After getting off work, the man who unloaded the cattle went home and read the “Crime Watch” report in the “TSCRA Theft and Law” section of The Cattleman. While reading the magazine, he realized that the cattle he had unloaded at the market earlier that day were the cattle that had been reported as missing. The man called TSCRA Market Inspector Ronnie Ober and it was confi rmed that the cattle were stolen by Easter. The TSCRA special rangers ran search warrants with the Texas Rangers; Texas

Department of Public Safety Troopers; the sheriff’s departments of Eastland, Cole- man, Comanche, and Brown counties; and the Cisco Police Department. After running the warrants, Brittain was able to locate and arrest Easter. The

recovered stolen livestock and equipment totaled more than $100,000 and more is expected to be retrieved. The investigation revealed that Easter is responsible for numerous cattle and

equipment thefts in multiple counties. The suspect was charged with 2 counts of theft of livestock. Other charges are expected to follow. “This case is a perfect example of citizens being vigilant about cattle theft and

making local authorities aware so justice can prevail,” said Brittain. “It is always crucial for folks to report any suspicious activity to their local law enforcement as soon as possible. I am also very proud of the teamwork we saw in this investigation between the TSCRA special rangers and the many law enforcement departments and agencies that helped break this case.”

WO CORYELL COUNTY MEN WERE CHARGED WITH THEFT OF LIVESTOCK ON JUNE 15 AFTER STEAL- ing 2 bulls from a rancher south of Gatesville.

TSCRA Special Ranger Marvin Wills led the investigation and the Coryell County

Sheriff’s Department assisted. According to Wills, the suspects, James Anthony Manning, 30, and Dylan R.

Robinson, 21, stole 2 bulls on May 1 from a TSCRA member after the bulls strayed onto a neighbor’s property. The stolen bulls were not branded, but had distinctive identifying marks that

assisted with locating them. They had been sold at an auction 80 miles away. “While we were able to identify these bulls by their specifi c markings, this is

not always the case,” said Wills. “It is important for ranchers to brand and keep an accurate count on their cattle. Following these precautions will help in the recov- ery of stolen livestock and serves as the best line of defense against cattle theft.” Wills arrested Manning on June 15 on theft of livestock charges. Robinson was

already being held in the Coryell County Jail under a motion to revoke his proba- tion from a theft case in which Wills and the Coryell County Sheriff’s Department convicted Robinson in 2011. TSCRA would like to thank the Coryell County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance with this investigation.
