ACCESSORIES & ANCILLARIES

When it comes to the machinery side of things, it’s not quite as simple as just purchasing a printer or an embroidery machine. There are a whole host of accessories and consumables to consider. Try thinking inks, threads, papers, hoop framing systems and more…

Embroidery and DTG consumables for all your needs G

S UK has been supplying machines, software and consumables to the textile

industry for over 25 years. Throughout this time many advancements have occurred in the machinery available and the various consumables they use.

The Brother GT3 direct to garment printer that GS sells also brings an accompanying need to supply printer inks, cleaning solutions, pre-treatment solutions as well as larger ancillary products such as heat presses and pre-treatment machines. This results in a comprehensive product range for direct to garment print businesses all from the same company. If you then combine this with a similar depth of product

range in the embroidery industry as GS does, you build up a vast selection of textile based ancillary products and consumables. However the supply of the ancillary products is only part of the service, in addition to this there is also a greater demand for knowledge on how an ancillary product should be applied to maximise its potential. Obviously most suppliers will have a working knowledge of the machines they sell, however not all will have the same level of knowledge about the best possible products those machines can utilise. For example when supplying such a vast range of embroidery

thread as GS has on its webshop, it becomes a necessity to know the qualities of each thread and what type of work it is best suited to. The advantage that GS has is its team of in-house designers who use GS products, software and machines to test their designs and explore the effects that can be created with them. From Poly (polyester), Sulky (rayon), Metallic, Glitter, Filaine (acrylic), Cotty (cotton), Glowy, Poly Neon there are a diverse range of colours,

thicknesses and variations of thread types to choose from. Different stitch densities will invariably be required for different weights of thread, the thicker the thread such as 100% cotton – Cotty will require a more open/less dense pitch of 0.5mm. This means there will be a gap of 0.5mm between one stitch and its neighbour. Thicker acrylic ʻwoollenʼ type thread such as Filaine will require an even more open pitch of 0.9mm. In addition to adjusting a design to suit a specific thread

it may also be necessary to adjust the needle, the tension on the machine, the weight of the embroidery backing used etc. there are many variables involved when creating a high quality embroidery. All of this assumes you are using a premium

quality thread in the first instance. Premium quality threads without any doubt decrease the chance that a

thread break will occur. Embroidery threads such as Sulky or Poly made by Gunold are made of high quality raw materials, for example Enka viscose for Sulky and an

EU-polyester for Poly. Lubricants, applied to the embroidery thread as a coating ensure smooth running of the thread throughout the whole thread pass. Even if you cannot see, feel or smell the lubricants, taking into consideration the different raw materials and colours, the right amount of lubricants is individually applied to each thread. It goes without saying that premium threads stand for consistently high breaking strength and colour fastness, as well as for a low tolerance in colour deviation and the identical thread size in all colours and dye batches of a particular thread type. This is unlikely to be the case with cheaper, lower quality thread. nFor more information call 0115 8448000, email sales@gs-uk.com or visit www.gs-ukdirect.com nFor the design department visit www.bespoke-embroidery.com/index.php
