Grand Canyon


America’s western states are high on many people’s bucket lists. And with the opportunity to combine the great sights of the Great Canyon, the lights of Las Vegas and San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge in one hit, it’s easy to see why this part of the world is so popular.


Escorted v self-drive For guests who want to see lots but not have the trouble of organising the trip, an escorted tour is the best option. Mystery Shopper was anxious about self-driving and was looking for a tour which ticked the boxes. If your client is reeling off a long list of places, ask them to rank their wish-list destinations so you can find out what matters most. There’s no point homing in on a tour that fits most of their criteria but misses what they deem to be the main attractions.


While it’s worth recommending several options, including a self-drive, don’t push something if you sense the client is uncomfortable with that idea.


Added extras A lot of tours offer added extras, such as home-to-airport transfers. Other added bonuses can be weaved into the tours themselves. For example, Trafalgar offers an exclusive wine-tasting in Sonoma on its Western Discoverer tour. North America Travel Service’s Yosemite and Sequoia tours would suit hikers and adventurous clients, with visits to both national parks and Muir Wood.


Meanwhile, Travelsphere’s Best of the West itinerary is a better fit for city sightseeing fans, with visits to San Francisco, Las Vegas, San Diego and Los Angeles.
