BOURNEC MMUNITYCHAMPIONS in association with

Premier Travel and Bourne Leisure give back to the community

T

ravel agents from across the country entered this year’s Bourne Community Champions competition – bidding to receive support

from Bourne Leisure for local good causes. And on May 26, members of Bourne’s travel trade

team joined staff from the winning agency, Premier Travel, to make a real difference to their community. The winning entry in the competition, run in association

with Travel Weekly, came from Premier’s Judith Bates, who requested assistance transforming a sensory room at a family centre for underprivileged children in care in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex. Unfortunately, Judith was unable to attend on the day due to ill-health, but regional manager Steve Cox and agents Elaine Noonan and Emma Jarvis were there, paintbrushes in hand. Steve said: “The support we’ve received from Bourne

Leisure and Travel Weekly has been fantastic – thanks to them we were able to achieve a brilliant result for the Clacton Family Centre and local families in the area. “The Premier Travel team all thoroughly enjoyed helping

out to develop a new sensory room for young families, and we were all absolutely delighted with the end results.” The sensory room will be used by children from the area who are in care, providing them with a calm and relaxed place to go when receiving visits from parents and carers. In addition to new carpets and decoration, the room was also filled with sensory equipment such as light-up

bubble towers, wall puzzles and toys to encourage interaction and play. Louise Tansey, national sales manager for Bourne

Leisure, said: “We were thrilled with all the entries and the amazing support agents are providing for their local communities. Every entry showed an

overwhelming commitment to local projects and causes. We were delighted to be able to make a difference to the family centre. The reaction of the team at the centre was amazing.” In addition to the day of community support, the family

centre also received a £500 donation from the Bourne team. Premier Travel will also have its efforts honoured at the

Travel Weekly Agent Achievement Awards next week. Three runners-up received £100 from the Bourne Community

team towards their nominated projects. They were: l Travel Counsellors: Support for Reuben’s Retreat l Thomas Cook: Support for patients suffering from dementia and their carers

l Barrhead Travel: Support for village gala committee Lucy Huxley, editor-in-chief of Travel Weekly Group, said:

“Bourne Community Champions is a fantastic initiative, and we are very proud to work in partnership with Bourne Leisure to showcase the incredible work it does and celebrate the agents around the country who are supporting some truly deserving causes. “The transformation of the sensory room will make a huge difference to many young people and their families.”
