Hurtigruten to sail expedition cruises around Norway
Hurtigruten is adding expedition- style cruises in Norway for 2016. From January, three Hurtigruten
ships – Nordnorge, Nordkapp and Nordlys – will operate the same coastal routes as their sister ships, but will be dedicated to the expedition concept. In addition to the usual activities, the ships will have an expedition team on board that will offer a hiking trip in selected ports. There will also
be lectures about flora and fauna, fishing traditions, polar and viking history, glaciology and climate. Expedition sailings will cost the same as the standard cruises, but a hiking pass will cost extra. Meanwhile, Hurtigruten has added three excursions to its standard cruise programme: mountain hikes with huskies in Kirkenes (£80); hiking up Mount Floyen (£40); and a mountain hike in the Lofoten Islands (£61).
Also new is a post-
cruise reindeer sleigh trip and night in a Sami tent in Tromso (£308).
