components on its Mobiya TS120 portable solar-pow- ered lamp housing. The water clear TPE grade is used to provide the soft touch grip and sealing surfaces for the lamp’s three-stage power switch and the cover for the mobile phone charging outlet. While thermoplastics are gaining ground in the

electronics enclosure sector, thermosets can still offer a cost effective option in high temperature applications. Japan’s U-Pica recently introduced a new thermoset polyester moulding compound – Vyloglass – offering good mechanicals, thermal resistance and halogen-free flame retardance. The material, which is distributed in North America by Mitsubishi Gas Chemical America, is supplied as a dry pellet and is based on crystalline unsaturated polyester resins. It is suitable for processing by a range of techniques, and is claimed to offer an alternative to PPS and PBT in applications requiring good thermal and electrical performance. According to U-Pica, the material offers high

resistance to electrical tracking and arcing. It moulds with minimal shrinkage and does not produce any gases or mould build-up during processing.

POLYMERS IN

AFRICA 2015 A growing opportunity

AMI is delighted to announce the 1st edition of the Polymers in Africa conference, coming to the

Hilton Kensington London, UK, this 9-10 December.

Africa’s growth is not only fuelled by its natural resources but also by its infrastructure development and emergent middle-class, and cities giving rise to a growing demand for a wide range of products requiring plastics from mobile phones to packaging. Not only that, but plastics products will play a vital role in the many fundamental challenges that the Continent faces from improving its agriculture, providing better water management systems, enabling safe and effi cient food distribution and installing reliable power supplies.

Polymers in Africa 2015 will give participants an opportunity to learn more about the nature of polymer demand in Africa, about what is happening in the market today, and what will be the growth opportunities in the future.

Organised by: Applied Market Information Ltd.

Conference Highlights: •

A full two-day conference programme A focused table top exhibition

• Networking Cocktail Reception • Opportunity to meet the industry’s key players •
