global industry developments. The opening paper will be followed by a panel discussion on “Strategies for plastics compounding growth in Asia”. This will feature a selection of infl uential leaders of Asian compounding operations. They are:  Rob Bindner, vice president Asia at PolyOne, based in China  Stanly Tan, managing director of Teknor Apex Asia Pacifi c, based in Singapore  Achal Thakkar, managing director of Tipco Industries and Autotech Polymers in India PolyOne is a global compounder with more than 80 manufacturing and distribu- tion facilities around the world, including production plants in China, India, Singapore and Thailand. Rob Bindner has been with the company since 1988 and currently heads up its Asian operations.

Teknor Apex is a global compounder with

13 manufacturing plants around the world, including facilities in Singapore and China. Stanly Tan has over 20 years of experience in the Asian plastics industry and he joined Teknor Apex in 2010, taking up responsibil- ity for Asia, Oceania and the Middle East. Tipco Industries is a leading Indian producer of fi lled and reinforced polypro- pylene, engineering plastics compounds, and masterbatches. Its Autotech Polymers subsidiary focuses on compounds for automotive applications. Achal Thakkar is managing director of Tipco and is an active participant in leading plastics industry organisations in India.

This highly experienced and infl uential panel will discuss a range of strategic issues including: globalisation; developing new markets; maximising margins; improving sustainability; and the changing role of compounders in the plastics supply chain. The panel discussion will be followed by

a presentation by Massimo Pavin, CEO of Sirmax, the international compounder that is headquartered in Italy and also has plants in Poland, Brazil and the USA. Sirmax is a leading producer of PP compounds for appliance, automotive, power-tool and other demanding applica- tions. It also produces a range of engineer- ing plastics compounds. Pavin has been with Sirmax since 1999

examine the implications of REACH and other chemicals legislation for plastics compound- ers in Asia.

Based in Brussels, Belgium, Dr Gergely has closely followed the evolution and implemen- tation of Europe’s REACH legislation, which has global implications. She has a PhD in chemistry, enabling her to give not only legal advice, but also a scientifi c interpretation of complex chemicals legislation matters. The fi rst day of Compounding World Asia 2015 will conclude with a cocktail reception for all delegates and speakers, providing more time for networking and visiting the table-top displays in the exhibition area. The second and third days of the confer- ence, covering materials and processing technologies respectively, will be previewed in detail in the next editions of Compounding World magazine. They include presentations on a range of hot topics, such as long-fi bre thermoplastics, natural fi bres, bioplastics, anti-counterfeiting technologies, antimicrobi- als, 3D printing materials, fl ame retardants, smart packaging, plus electrically-conductive and thermally-conductive compounds.
