automobile sectors and we’re looking to double our capacity with an extension in the facility, an improve- ment in the utilities, a brand new fl agship machine and new staff,” says company director Campbell Wigley. A key element in the investment is the
installation of a new metallizing machine – a Technomet Combi MV15/18 unit from Italian company TecnoVacuum. The new machine, which will be installed at the end of July, offers faster operation and increased output rates. It also allows the company to offer a sputtering option for the fi rst time (its existing equipment uses evaporative technology). According to the company, sputtering is capable of
applying a thicker and more durable decorative fi nish. It will also extend the range of metallic fi nishes it can apply beyond aluminium (copper is an increasingly popular option for electromagnetic shielding applica- tions) and allow it to extend its colour palette. “We want injection moulding companies to understand the potential of outsourcing this part of their production line, and realise the extra fi nishing capabilities by using a technique like vacuum metallizing. It’s a very
desirable, and extremely cost-effective fi nish for many plastics manufacturers,” says Wigley.
