Helping Hand from LMA,

TSCRA Livestock markets are tremendous partners for cow-calf producers. Members of Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) will market more than a million head of cattle per year through the markets.

TSCRA special rangers have good working re- lationships with the market owners in their dis- tricts, providing law enforcement support as needed. Wayne Carroll speaks highly of the spe- cial rangers, particularly Special Ranger Marvin Wills. “You couldn’t ask for a better advocate. Anytime I’ve ever spoken to Marvin, his answer has been, ‘Wayne, I’m going to help you. We’re going to get this done,’ or ‘What else do you need?’”

Carroll speaks even more highly of the Livestock Marketing Association (LMA) and the support that association provides. “When we started in the sale barn business almost 10 years ago, one thing we didn’t really understand was that LMA is a whole lot more than an insurance company. They keep us informed of government and in- dustry affairs and everything we need to know.”

Jesse Carver is the local representative for LMA and met Carroll when they were both working at Capital Land and Livestock. “Jesse is extra spe- cial because he went around to these sale barns and bought cattle for years. He understands the way they are supposed to work. When you ask him a question, his answer is not theoretical. It’s a practical answer because he’s already been there.”

Carroll says, “Because we have a full-time vet who

works with our producers through a herd health pro- gram, we make sure these cattle are handled the right way. We are going to be there to help you through it. When these cattle are sent to a feedyard, to grass, or wheat, if the buyer has trouble, I tell them to call us. Call me or call our on-staff vet if these cattle are hav- ing trouble. We want to know. We want to follow it all the way through. We want kill sheets and performance data from the yard. We don’t quit just because the auc- tioneer says ‘sold’ and charge it to so and so. That’s not where we end. We want to go all the way to the end. “We’re all about customer service and doing every-

thing we can to contribute to herd health, predictability, and performance data for the end user. We are a full service, one-stop shop kind of marketing facility for everything you need. Whatever it is you want to do, we can do it right here in Clifton, Texas.”
