Jack Ward has been named execu- tive vice president of the American Hereford Association (AHA). He has served as AHA’s chief operating of- fi cer and director of breed improve- ment since 2003. Ward will lead, di- rect, manage or support all functions of the association and will serve as the association secretary. Reporting directly to the AHA board, he will de- velop and recommend policies, plans and programs to effectively meet the needs and challenges of the mem- bership and enhance the growth and reputation of the Hereford breed and AHA.

GE-EPDs combine an analysis of pedigree, individual performance and genomic information to hasten the rate of genetic progress in a popula- tion of cattle. Most importantly, GE- EPDs increase the accuracy of EPDs on younger, non-proven animals. The increase in EPD accuracies allows breeders to identify the best genetics earlier in an animal’s life without the extreme cost of progeny testing. In- formation gleaned from a single DNA sample may be as informative as the fi rst calf crop of a bull or the lifetime production record of a cow.
