of the two main lines to the west in Center Rutland next to the station, and the many opportunities on the Green Mountain. Points of interest when you travel east include the many bridges in towns such as Cuttingsville and East Wallingford. A sweeping curve through the Okemo ski area access road and the depot at Ludlow are good locations. The recently replaced covered bridge in Bartonsville remains a great photo prop for southbound moves. South on the B&R, the mainline closely parallels U.S. Route 7 (and 7A) through Danby, East Dorset, Manchester, Arlington (with a station), Shaftsbury, and North Bennington, whose station is also of the grand Rutland style. Two large bridges span the Walloomsac River further west on the Hoosick Branch, and the noteworthy example is the impressive structure just west of the

state line. Train speeds can vary based on the condition of track; speeds are slightly higher on the Green Mountain and much slower on the northern end of the B&R.
Saratoga & North Creek
Construction on the Adirondack Railway began in 1864, proposed to connect the iron ore mines at Sackets Harbor with Saratoga Springs.
Completed to North Creek in 1871, the line was sold to the Delaware & Hudson in 1889. Operated as the Adirondack Division, the sleepy branch line became an important conduit when an extension was opened to Tahawus in 1944 to transport titanium ore for the war effort. National Lead shuttered the Tahawus mine in 1989 and service on the branch was cut back to Corinth. Warren County purchased the line from Hadley to North
