Product Development 29 Automatic oil return becomes easier
TITAN ENGINEERING HAS launched the latest Witt barrel dosing pump, BDP2, which, managing director, Don Belcher, says has many advantages for automatic oil return in refrigerant systems.
Among the advantages claimed for the BDP2 are that manual oil draining is not required; internal damping allows the use of hot gas at high pressure to be injected to activate the BDP2; it can be operated at fixed time intervals or activated when needed by the addition of a Witt supplied electronic level sensor; it’s relatively simple to install in new systems compared to a conventional manual oil drain vessel; it is adaptable to changing system requirements and has a design pressure of 40 bar. There are three different sizes, depending on the refrigerant and size of the system and Titan Engineering
will advise which is best suited for any particular application. Mr Belcher said: “Even with efficient oil separators there is always a small amount of oil carried over into systems, which will accumulate over time and needs to be recovered. The Witt oil recovery system incorporating the BDP2 uses existing hot gas to automatically
return accumulated oil in a cost effective and energy efficient way back to the compressor via a heat exchanger and oil filter to ensure evaporation of remaining liquid refrigerant,” Titan Engineering has considerable experience of ammonia refrigeration systems. Mr Belcher said: “One of the more common causes of poor performance and technical problems in ammonia systems is the build up of unrecovered oil as a result of poor manual oil draining technique. The BDP2 and its accessories can automate this process. Properly set up it can eliminate the need for the involvement of manual labour in the oil recovery process”. Unlike previous models, if servicing is needed then the BDP2 can be opened by a competent ammonia refrigeration engineer and parts can be cleaned or exchanged as needed.
Air coolers – up to 80 bar as standard from Guntner
THE GASC (Güntner air cooler slim compact) and GACC (Güntner air cooler cubic compact) air cooler series were among the new model ranges that were exhibited by Güntner at Chillventa under the heading ‘Innovations for all fluids’. The intention was to demonstrate that the new product generations are not only optimally equipped to fulfil all applicable regulations, but are also well designed and optimised at a technical level to offer viable solutions for all refrigerants. The heat exchanger coil combinations available are optimised precisely to suit the required refrigerant and fluid in each case. The tube diameters and materials, together with the fin geometries, offer the ideal combination of performance and minimum tube volume, the company says.
As is customary with Güntner, the new series also comes with an extensive range of accessories.
Despite the complex technical expertise that goes on behind the scenes with the Güntner product calculator, the design software remains as simple as
ever to use. The new air coolers are designed as standard for an operating pressure of up to 80 bar.
Güntner’s GASC air cooler is a slim, ceiling-mounted unit and is
available for HFC as well as CO2. With its flat, certified hygienic design and capacity range from 0.5kW to 13kW, it is an excellent cooler for the commercial refrigeration sector, especially for small capacities in cold rooms with low ceiling heights. The units can be installed quickly and come with a removable side cover. The overall casing structure is designed to be easy to open and to clean. Multiple unit types for standard applications can also be delivered in next to no time as a storage unit. With its GACC air cooler in cubic design, Güntner offers a classic standard product for a wide range of applications in commercial refrigeration.
The GACC comprises a highly efficient heat exchanger with a staggered tube
pattern in compact casing. The different types of unit together cover a capacity range from 1.5kW to 69kW and offer numerous application benefits. The GACC can be accessed easily for inspection and maintenance work and can be cleaned quickly and simply thanks to an easy-to-open side cover and hinged components, such as inner and outer tray. The optional Güntner Streamer allows particularly high air throws to be achieved in the cold room.
