Line seeks to persuade board to increase capacity by building or buying a new ship

Fred Olsen Cruise Lines is actively pushing for a new ship to be added to its fleet by parent company Fred Olsen & Co. Nathan Philpot, sales and marketing director, said the line was

constantly approaching the board to seek approval for more capacity. Speaking at the launch of the line’s 2016-17 programme, Philpot said

there were “no firm plans” for expansion of the line. However, he added: “We would be crazy not to be thinking about what

we could do, whether it be new-builds or extra tonnage.” He said the “economics had to work” and some on the board could need persuading.

out of the southern port.

Philpot also said the line would be doubling the number of sailings from Tilbury to six, and Falmouth, Cornwall, has been added as a departure port. The line’s four ships will visit 253 destinations in 84 countries in 2016-17 and the itineraries went on sale this week. Among the fleet’s record 23 maiden ports of call are Arendal, Norway; Fort William, Scotland; Tasiilag, Greenland; Laguna San Rafael, Chile; Isla de San Andres, Colombia; Klaksvik, Faroe Islands; and Aabenraa, Denmark. Fred Olsen will also introduce 18 adult-only sailings, among them an 11-night Great British Cruise on Braemar, featuring calls in Falmouth, Liverpool, Lerwick in the Shetland Islands and Edinburgh. fredolsencruises.com
