Halcon Embedded for Android MVTec Software has made its Halcon software library ready for mobile use. With Halcon Embedded for Android, the software now also runs on portable devices such as tablets and smartphones that use the Android operating system.
On request, MVTec will develop a customised Android version that is perfectly tailored to individual requirements. This version will benefit companies that develop professional imaging applications based on the Android platform. The mobile Halcon version opens up a wide range of new applications, such as optical character recognition. One practical scenario in this context is mobile scanning and the recording of text and character information, such as reading power and water meters with a smartphone. Other possible scenarios include mobile recognition and the recording of street names for navigation applications.

PowerGrid location algorithm Cognex has introduced its PowerGrid technology, a texture-based location algorithm that takes a unique, inside-out approach to reading 2D matrix and direct part mark (DPM) codes. While conventional feature-based algorithms start by locating the finder pattern, Cognex’s PowerGrid technology looks for a pattern of alternating light and dark modules within the code. PowerGrid technology increases read rates in 2D barcode-reading applications where a part’s geometry, poor lighting, occlusion, or print- registration errors make it difficult to capture an image of the entire code. The algorithm can locate and read codes even when they exhibit significant damage to or complete elimination of

, its latest versions of the original
Komet software first released in 1992 by Kinetic Imaging.
As with previous versions of Komet software, Andor continue to offer Database Viewer (DBV) completely free of charge with every copy of
Komet 7. DBV automatically stores images of comets scored during an experiment and provides data summaries for each one. DBV is also freely distributable by Komet
users to colleagues, so that many people can analyse the data acquired at their own workstation.
