PBA Xtra 07
PBA TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS AT 50 06 05
FALSE START Fighting to get his approach started and need- ing a pair of strikes in the 10th frame to clinch the 1975 title, No. 1 seed, Barry Asher, makes several false starts. When he eventually leaves a “half-10,” opponent Dave Davis converts a spare in his 10th to win his second Firestone.
‘NEVER GIVE UP’ Michael Haugen Jr. overcomes a 52-pin deficit late in the game and, with the help of a missed 10-pin by opponent Chris Barnes, goes on to win the 2008 H&R Block Tournament of Champi- ons title, 215-214.
FIELD DAY IN THE FIELD-HOUSE Mike Aulby’s opponent, Bob Spaulding, literal- ly falls out of his chair as Aulby comes through with a mixer strike in the 10th frame to clinch the 1995 Brunswick Tournament of Champions title in front of a sold-out crowd of more than 3,000 at a local college field-house. The win completes a “grand slam” of major tournament victories for Aulby.
