THE SKINNY ON THE LATEST AND GREATEST

56 Hook 14.5 Length 15 Breakpoint Shape DV8: THUG UNRULY

Manufacturer’s Intent: “We wanted the Thug Unruly to expand the hook range of the DV8 line,” says Brunswick’s Aaron Koch. “With the combination of the Class 13G Solid Reactive and the Thug core, the Thug Unruly delivers maximum hook potential on heavy oil lane conditions.”

Core: The Thug low RG asymmetric core has an RG of 2.505, a differential of .052 and an interme- diate differential of .015. We saw about five inch- es of flare. This core also is used in the original Thug (November 2014).

Coverstock: The blue, violet and yellow Class 13G solid reactive coverstock is sanded with 500 and 2000 Siaair pads. We measured an “Unruly” RA value of 10.09 with an effective surface grit of 2600.

Overview: The Thug Unruly complements the original Thug nicely, creating a great 1-2 punch. On Stone Street, this ball opened up the lane well without burning up from a deeper inside angle. We had hold area left and a lot of recovery right — all the way to the 6-board from 15 at the arrows. In com- parison to the original, the Unruly moved us about four to five boards left with our feet and three boards left at the arrows on Stone Street. On the USBC Doubles/Singles pattern, we had to play a little deeper on the fresh than we usually like, but the surface didn’t seem to start up too soon, and we had a controlled but strong recovery off the mid- lane. We created good area to the right from the 17-board at the arrows all the way to the 7-8 boards at the breakpoint. This animal

was too much for us on our lighter house pattern. The Thug Unruly is cleaner than the Ruckus Feud (February 2014), which provided the most hook to date from the DV8 line. This Thug also saves its energy well, with more back-end reaction. The Unruly is a ball for those needing hook in the box without much effort, and will be the first ball out of your bag on longer or heavier patterns.
