MED-TECH INNOVATION EXPO to showcase electronics to buyers
With the run-up to Med-Tech Innovation Expo 2015, April 29- 30th now fully underway, show founder and organiser, Colin Martin, explains why he fully expects the Ricoh Stadium, Coventry to be brimming with electronics talent come exhibition day
“
A whirlwind trip through last year’s Compamed and Medica shows in
Düsseldorf confirmed to me that med- tech electronics continue to outperform and out-innovate most other sectors today,” says Colin Martin, Med-Tech show founder and organiser. “Our MTI EXPO in April 2015 will aim to
draw this talent out and bring it to the attention of the specifying and buying communities in healthcare, with a strong focus on the UK and Ireland. We are the only Med-Tech exhibition, publication and website dedicated to serving just the UK and Irish Med-Tech sector. Med-Tech electronics is a key constituency for us,’’ Martin added. The Med-Tech Innovation EXPO has a
number of key UK and Irish partners for 2015. The Medilink network of companies is one of these and Loughborough based member Datalink is a leading light within the Medilink electronics community. Arash Ghadar has been spearheading the company’s medical portfolio and promises that Datalink, established in 1984, will reveal a number of new developments at MTI Expo. Enniskillen based company Elite
Electronic Systems Ltd. will be exhibiting its capabilities and services at MTI EXPO 2015, Elite was established nearly 30 years ago. Its manufacturing portfolio includes PCB Assembly; Conformal Coating, Cable and Wire Assembly and Complete Systems. Peter Needham of Salisbury-based ML

Electronics Ltd. has extensive medical- based expertise that includes innovative product development and launch work for clients such as Plasma Surgical. ML’s work here culminated in the FDA approved and trademarked PlasmaJet which has won enthusiastic adoption by the American College of Surgeons. The ML Electronics website contains a wealth of med-tech case studies and products, ranging from cranial pressure and patient monitoring to bed monitors and drug delivery systems.
CONTRACT MANUFACTURING Leicester based LCL Electronics will use MTI EXPO to promote its extensive capabilities as a fully outsourced contract manufacturer, specialising in assembly work. PCB work is a mainstay at the ISO 9001 qualified company as is Package on Package (POP) assembly, cable assembly, full box build and SMT assembly services. G&B Electronic Manufacturing Services
will use EXPO 2015 to market its wares in product design and manufacture, such as that achieved for Oxford BioSignals Ltd., an Oxford University spin out. The work led to the production of a revolutionary sleep monitor, based on algorithm work and software initially developed in the University’s engineering department. G&B also worked with Lifelines Ltd. to
design, develop and manufacture a revolutionary Ambulatory EEG

(electroencephalograph) recorder. Professional battery manufacturer Accutronics enjoyed great success with its smart battery launch success at the Compamed show, Düsseldorf last November. The new CMX series has high energy density and a high power discharge, making it perfect for life-critical applications, with no compromise on safety and reliability. Rob Phillips, Managing Director of Accutronics notes that medical devices have become smaller and as a result, smarter and more intricate components are increasingly in demand. ‘However,’ says Phillips, “there is now an increased demand for mobile technology used in hospitals and in the field, including acute ventilators, portable anaesthesia workstations and intra-oral scanners.” This rise in portability will bring its own issues with companies designing in product security. Accutronics has already made headway into improved security by making available a hardware-embedded software algorithm (SHA-1) which can identify and isolate fake batteries, stopping them from being used in critical-care devices. This also provides better batch traceability and deters fraudulent warranty claims. MTI EXPO 2015 aims to showcase the best
in UK and Irish medical electronics talent. Colin Martin will also be courting leading international producers – such as Medtronic whose revolutionary new cardiac monitor recently won an Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Innovation Award. A Medronics team who specialise in
shrinking medical devices to make them not only radically smaller but also more efficient and more advanced versions of their ‘larger’ counterparts, decided to take on a new challenge - to make a heart monitor which could be inserted under the skin quickly and leave no traces, meaning that heart rhythm could be monitored over long periods of time. The Reveal LINQ ICM is the result. It is part of a powerful system that allows medical professionals to continuously and wirelessly monitor a patient’s heart for up to three years. A must attend event for anyone involved
in the medical electronics sector. Visit the show website for more information.
