Innovative Adhesive Thermal Laminate

or structural-bonding applications requiring high thermal performance with absorption of mechanical stresses, new Bond-Ply® LMS-HD from Bergquist delivers an effective and easy-to-use solution. Bond-Ply LMS-HD consists of a thermally conductive low-modulus silicone compound coated on a cured core, and double lined with protective films. Two thickness grades give designers a choice of 0.254mm or 0.305mm thicknesses for structurally adhering discrete semiconductors such as power components, or PCBs, to a heat sink. A choice of assembly techniques is allowed,

assemblers to achieve high thermal conductivity after lamination at constant pressure of 75 psi or by using Initial Pressure Only (IPO) lamination. A test assembly using a TO-220 power package has demonstrated thermal impedance of 2.3°C/W after IPO lamination. Bond-Ply LMS-HD ensures very low interfacial thermal resistance, which helps maximise heat transfer.

Lowpass Filters Available From Stock for Immediate Delivery

TE Filters, a US-based manufacturer of high-reliability RF and microwave filters for demanding communication and signal processing applications, recently introduced a Lowpass Chebyshev passive filter series – LC9S – providing off-the-shelf convenience and immediate delivery. TTE has been manufacturing filters since 1956 and has particular expertise in short lead times. Expedited

lead time as short as 3-5 days is available on many built-to-order filter designs. TTE’s new LC9S is a high- quality filter series offered from inventory with competitive pricing and same day shipment. This series addresses the need of customers requiring immediate availability – when 3 to 5 days is not fast enough. The 9-pole filters in the LC9S Series deliver fast roll-off, an insertion loss of 1.0dB maximum and 50 Ohm terminations. Nine part numbers are available, each at a specific -1dBc passband frequency, from 30 MHz to 3 GHz. The series offers stopband attenuation of -40dBc at 1.5:1 ratio (rejection frequency from 45 MHz to 4.5 GHz) and -60dBc at 2:1 ratio (rejection frequency from 60 MHz to 6 GHz). Depending on frequency, the filters have input power of 5 or 10 watts max and utilize one of two SMA female connectorized cases. Operating temperature is 0°C to +70°C. RoHS-compliant parts are available. LC9S filters are designed for use in cellular, data acquisition, electronic support, radar, satellite, sonar, telecommunication, telemetry and wireless applications in commercial, industrial, medical and military/defense environments. Pricing for the LC9S Series starts at $170 US Funds per part in volume. TTE is known for its design and manufacture of application-specific RF and microwave filters to 26

GHz. Capabilities include LC or lumped element, combline or cavity and helical designs. Filter types include bandpass, bandreject, highpass, lowpass, and high power lowpass while topologies include Bessel, Butterworth, Chebyshev, Elliptical Function and Gaussian. TTE Filters is an affiliate of Gowanda Holdings (gowandaholdings.com).

Complete temperature monitoring solution for glass tempering

R

aytek and Datapaq have developed the first combined dedicated temperature measurement solution

for tempering. The Raytek GS150 system uses a linescanner

glass to

measure infrared radiation of the glass sheets after they have been heated to melting point. It scans the sheets line by line as they are being transported from the furnace to the air quench, generating thermal images of each sheet. The accompanying visualization and analysis software enables operators to quickly and reliably check the correct and even heating of the sheets.

For fast process setup and precise calibration of the infrared solution, Datapaq has developed a new Furnace Tracker system with an especially low-height thermal barrier. This system is based on a data logger that passes through the furnace as well as the air quench, taking temperature readings directly from the glass surface via thermocouples.

EZ-Shield Cans now available in kit form for fast, low cost development

H

arwin now offers its EZ-Shield Can EMC protection screening products in kit form, enabling designers to rapidly construct PCB cans at minimal cost for development purposes. Harwin’s EZ-Shield Cans are simply pressed onto pre-positioned surface mount EZ-Shield Clips forming an EMC cage around sensitive ICs and electronic circuitry. The low cost kit comprises two 80mm x 60mm x 0.3mm thick Nickel Silver sheets that are pre-scribed on a 5mm grid to allowing easy cutting and forming. Comments Product Manager, Paul Gillam: “Product testing has confirmed that the nickel silver material used provides effective and useable shielding, with up to 24dB attenuation achieved, depending on frequency and configuration. We believe that the kits will save costs and time during development, and help to enable that an optimised EMC solution is found.”

Smart drive concepts for intra-logistics

t the SPS IPC Drives exhibition NORD DRIVESYSTEMS demonstrated the operation of dynamic integrated drives in a working intra-logistics model. Efficient geared motors combined with distributed frequency inverters and motor starters accomplish demanding positioning tasks. Functions demonstrated include contact-free and gap-free baggage accumulation. The drives are synchronized and thereby enable the seamless transfer of transported goods to a hoist. Motor encoders and sensors are wired directly to the mechatronics units which carry out different tasks and feature a uniform operation concept. The economic SK 135E motor starter ensures load pick-up with constant speeds as well as reversing operation. The SK 180E frequency inverter controls the speed of horizontal conveyors. The versatile SK 200E series performs drive tasks in hoist applications.

These inverters cover motor

performances up to 22 kW and can also be used for regenerative operation.
