Austrian machinery maker Wittmann Battenfeld is making plans to produce injection moulding machines in China within two years. Asia currently accounts for
around 14% of the Austrian company’s annual machine sales of around €145m. However, growing its share in the region – and especially in China – will require a local manufacturing operation, Wittmann Group general manager Michael Wittmann told Injection World at Fakuma in October. “We will have to build machines there,” Wittmann
said. “In China, if you do not build machines there, you are not invited to the negotiating table.”
Wittmann said planning for a Chinese production plant will begin once the company has its injection machine manufac- turing at Mosonmagyaróvár in
Hungary, where it will be building 55, 110 and 180 tonne EcoPower models (pictured) by year end, in full operation. The current aim is to be manufac- turing 110 and 180 tonne EcoPower models in China in 2016, he said. ❙

Carclo profit up 30% to £2.3m
Carclo Technical Plastics, part of UK-headquartered Carclo, reported a 30% increase in underlying profits to £2.3m for the first half of its financial year. H1 sales were up by 7% to
£30m, benefiting from additional production capacity at the company’s recently expanded injection moulding units in the US and the Czech Republic and the now com-
pleted closure of its loss-mak- ing plant in Scotland. The company said it plans to further expand medical capacity in China. ❙

Styrolution has announced the appointment of Kevin McQuade as CEO with effect from 1 January 2015. He takes over from Roberto Gualdoni, who is leaving the
company for personal reasons. McQuade was president of Styrolution’s business in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Denis Poelman has been appointed managing director of Ferromatik Milacron Europe with responsibility for leading sales, manufacturing, operations, design and aftermarket support. Poelman moves from Milacron’s DME Europe moulds components business, where he held the post of managing director since 2008. He takes over the

John A Way has taken up the post of chief financial officer at US-headquartered fast plastics parts company Proto Labs. Way takes over from Jack Judd, who retires at the end of the year. He joins from healthcare service provider Univita.

So.F.teR starts up US plant
Italian compounder So.F.teR has commenced production of engineering plastics at its new US plant at Lebanon in Tennessee. The company has
invested $20m in this initial phase, creating a 9,300 m2 production unit with an initial annual capacity of 23,000 tonnes on the 85,000 m2
site. The long term
vision is to expand the facility to 23,000 m2
lilft capacity to 90,000 tonnes, including TPE production.
The plant specification
follows the technical standards implemented at the company’s existing compounding facilities in Italy, Mexico and Brazil and includes a full range of engineering services. ❙
