Synventive says its ActiveGate portfolio of technologies provides moulders with an unprecedented level of control, allowing production of parts unattainable with traditional moulding technologies. ActiveGate technologies
effectively transfer process control features from the moulding machine to the mould tool. The family of products utilises position, pressure and temperature sensors within the hot runner and mould cavities to provide independent melt flow control at each gate point. The ActiveGate family
includes: Dynamic Feed Injection pressure control, which provides independent pressure control at each gate; e-Gate Electronic Control, which provides complete control of valve gate pin position and speed; SynFlow Hydraulic Two-Speed Pin Control, which can eliminate surface defects through precision control of pin opening velocity; and nuGate Pneumatic Control, which provides independent and precise control of pins on pneumatic valve gate systems. According to Synventive, the technologies offer unrivalled
levels of control of the moulding process and can help improve surface finish, increase production rates, cut scrap levels and speed start-ups.

PSG optimises nozzle heating
Germany’s PSG Plastic Service has launched the SmartFill hot runner nozzle, which is claimed to use an optimised heating arrangement to allow it to handle high temperature engineering plastics with a very narrow processing window. The SmartFill nozzle uses a new
torpedo design that divides and brings the melt flow back together in the hot zone, which the company

says reduces visible flowlines in mouldings and results in an improvement in optical and mechanical quality. In addition, the installation dimensions of the nozzle length in the tool are the same for all nozzle types, making it possible to easily switch from an RT (ring gate with torpedo) design to a DNZ (valve gate with nozzle head) type. Nozzle lengths can be specified to
any dimension. l PSG has also extended its support offering with a new iOS and Android app. PSG-App Hot Runner provides information and possible solutions for a variety of moulding problems. ❙

The new SmartFill nozzle
HRSflow manages mould fill
The FlexFlow system from HRSflow provides completely independent control of each valve pin in the hot runner to improve filling of large surface area parts such as automotive bumpers or to manage filling of multi- cavity moulds for parts of differing shot weight. At the heart of the
system is an electrically- driven actuator which allows the position, stroke and velocity of each valve pin to be controlled precisely. The system is regulated by the FlexFlow controller, which is available in 4,8,12 and 16 zone configurations and allows each pin position to be controlled to an accuracy of 0.01mm. The actuator fits on the side of the nozzle to save space and is the same dimensions as a hydraulic cylinder with slide. The technology can be used on HRSflow’s M, G and A series nozzles with pin diameters of 5, 7 or 10mm. ❙
