Update | hot runners in brief

❙ Canada’s RNA Precision claims to be the largest manufacturer and supplier of replacement PET hot runner parts for systems built by Husky, Hofstetter and MHT. The company holds a large number of parts in stock for immediate delivery and can supply non-stock parts from the relevant manufacturer’s part number. Other services include hot runner system refurbishment and supply of complete PET hot runner systems. www.rnaprecision.com

❙ Hasco can now supply single needle valve gate units complete with nozzle and ready for immediate connec- tion. The company says the SNV-06 and SNV-12 systems overcome the challenges of mounting centrally in the mould, where the drive cylinder cannot be positioned on the nozzle axis. The units are designed for use with the company’s Technishot Z33 series nozzles. They can be operated using either pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders. www.hasco.com

❙ Priamus has developed a new technology for manufac- turing cavity pressure sensors with an extremely hard front surface suitable for processing abrasive polymers containing high levels of fillers or reinforce- ment. The company has applied for a patent covering the new sensor facing, which it claims outperforms both titanium nitride and chrome. www.priamus.com

Mold-Masters integrates control, saves energy

Milacron Group company Mold-Masters has introduced a number of new and updated hot runner and control products, including the new TempMaster iM2 Integrated Controller and EcoDisk insulation upgrade. The iM2 controller can be used with any injection moulding machine and eliminates the need for a standalone control unit. Able to support from 4-144 zones, the system uses standard M2 control cards and provides the features of the standalone Tempmaster M2 design, including soft start and ground

fault detection, automatic tool diagnostics, plastic leak detection, water flow monitor- ing and mould tool ID. Also new is EcoDisk

(pictured), a 7mm insulating ceramic pad installed flush to the bottom of the clamp plate

in position above the pressure disk in the company’s Sprint high speed closure hot runner. The Ecodisk can reduce energy use by up to 21% and is claimed to provide improved thermal balance at the nozzle. ❙ www.moldmasters.com

Husky upgrades its Altanium Matrix

The latest addition to the hot runner controller range from Husky Injection Molding Systems is the Altanium Matrix2.

The Matrix2 features a

19-inch touchscreen panel to improve ease of operation. It incorporates Husky’s Active Reasoning Technology, which is claimed to optimise the thermal performance of each zone, as well as plastic leak detection, mould diagnostics, data recording, and mould set-up storage functions. Available to support up to 254 zones, the Matrix2 controller is offered as a free-standing unit or can be mounted on the injection

machine or mould (the latter option providing a significant saving on cabling and floor space). The company also recently

introduced the Unify manifold system, which is designed for one-step installation of the manifold into the mould without the need for pre-heat- ing the system. Supplied fully wired and pre-assembled with hydraulic valve gate actuators, the system is said to reduce installation times by up to 70%. Designed for use with Husky’s standard nozzles, the Unify manifold also incorpo- rates the company’s UltraSeal leak prevention system. ❙ www.husky.co

Web-based innovation

Italy-based Thermoplay has expanded the level of service available to users of its ELS online hot runner design tool, claiming to offer lead times of six days, increased design flexibility and reduced cost. The ELS system allows

customers to select 2, 4, 6 and 8 drop hot runner manifolds in both thermal and valve gate designs. Nozzle pitches can be selected from 90-450mm, while the nozzle itself can be selected to suit the polymer to be processed (with coated manifold heaters available for high temperature processing applications). ❙ www.thermoplay.com
