New Heavy Duty Connector Series
A
mphenol Industrial Products Group, a global leader in interconnect systems, now offers a heavy duty connector series for size 8 and size 12 power contacts.
The new ATHD series is a single
pole, rugged, in-line connection system designed to replace splices and provide power wherever its needed.
Using Amphenol’s exclusive Radsok
technology, the connector reaches higher amperages than other connectors in its class. Ideal for rugged, high vibration applications found in the heavy equipment and mining markets, the sealed, thermoplastic connectors can be installed and repaired in the field eliminating the need for costly, non-repairable splices. They also feature clip slots for a variety of harness mounting
solutions. The size 8 system is rated to 70 amps continuous with the Radsok terminals and has a contact retention of 156 N. The size 12 system is rated to 35 amps continuous with the Radsok terminals and has a contact retention of 133 N. The ATHD series is RoHS compliant and has an IP67 rating.

TÜV SÜD Warns Manufacturers to be Wary of Wireless Modules
A presumption is often made that when an R&TTE compliant module is integrated into a final host product, no further radio testing is necessary.
However, this is not the case if the module is not integrated in accordance with the module manufacturer’s instructions, and it must also meet additional essential requirements of the R&TTE Directive, such as safety and EMC aspects.
integrate wireless modules into their products that they may be selling non-compliant goods, as they struggle to understand complex rules.
P
TÜV SÜD is seeing a significant growth in the number of non-compliant products entering its laboratories due the rising trend for wireless modules to be added into an expanding variety of products, machines,
including televisions, fridges, telematics devices, machinery etc.
Products that were not traditionally subject to the Radio and Telecommunications
Terminal
Equipment Directive (R&TT) must now meet its requirements and manufacturers are failing to realise this.
The R&TTE Directive will be
superseded by the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) in June 2016. The essential requirements of the RED are largely identical to those of the R&TTE Directive, so the situation regarding wireless modules will remain unchanged.

roduct compliance expert TÜV SÜD Product Service is warning manufacturers which
Jean-Louis Evans, Managing Director of TÜV SÜD Product Service, said: “The integration of wireless modules is going beyond the more traditional market, such as laptops and mobile phones, and they are now being included in everything from domestic fridges to industrial machinery.
The problem is that while these wireless modules are being sold to manufacturers as being compliant, once they are integrated into another product that changes the rules”.

“Manufacturers are assuming that because the wireless module is compliant, that they do not have to do any more tests to declare against different standards - this is wrong. Market surveillance authorities can come down hard on manufacturers that supply non-compliant equipment to the market and ignorance of the rules is no excuse,” concluded Evans.
Rugged CCM03 series smart card connectors
R
ugged CCM03 series smart card connectors from C&K offer higher contact forces for harsh environment applications and can now be sourced from
TTI, Inc., the world’s leading specialist
distributor of passive, connector, electromechanical and discrete components. Compatible with SIM/SAM cards, the two new connector families feature a built-in card detection switch for machine-to- machine (M2M) applications, meet IEC 512 certification and are resistant to shock, vibration, humidity and extreme temperatures.
CCM03-3511 series smart card connectors provide an increased contact force to withstand shock and high vibration, while the CCM03-3512 series features extended soldering pads to withstand a second reflow upside down. The CCM03 series’ advanced contact system optimises electrical performance,
