Service Awards Presented at 26th EHS Conference


Several service awards were presented to members of the


metalcasting industry at the 26th Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Conference held this August in Pittsburgh. Te awards were presented to the following individuals for dedica- tion and service to help build and improve environmental, safety and health conditions within the metalcasting industry: • Larry Bowers, group environmental compliance director, Mc- Wane Inc, Anniston, Ala. Bowers is a member of the Water Quality & Waste Disposal and Air Quality committees.


• Paul Turpin, project manager, TRC Environmental Corp., Madison, Wis. Turpin is a member of the Water Quality & Waste Disposal Committee.


• Tom Slavin, president, Slavin OSH Group, LLC, Chicago. Slavin is a Safety & Health Committee member. Tis is his second service award.


• Bob Scholz, senior project manager, TRC Environmental, Brookfield, Wis. Scholz is a Safety & Health Committee member. Tis is his second service award. AFS also presented the EHS Division 10 Outstanding


New Person Award to Holly Guerrero, assistant environ- mental manager, Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Company (PSCIPCO), Provo, Utah, for actively participating in com- mittee activities and continually volunteering her time and talents to committee projects. Te annual EHS conference included a keynote presentation


on recent developments in environmental justice from Richard Glaze, Balch and Bingham LLP. Te conference covered other topics, including the EPA and OSHA regulatory agenda, methods to avoid exposures to air contaminants, foundry sand reuse, compliance control and TRI reporting. Prior to the EHS Conference, AFS held the seminar, “What Every Foundry Should Know About Stormwater Compliance,” to address the regulatory and technical issues involved in meeting requirements. High- lights of the seminar included a session on stormwater pol- lution and prevention plan (SWPPP) development.
