Onlignment takes different approach

to learning design Onlignment is set to inaugurate a “more than blended learning” approach, which it describes as “a complete system for the design of workplace learning interventions”. The More Than Blended Learning approach emphasises the practical application of new knowledge, skills and ideas, with ongoing follow-up to ensure effective transfer to the job. The end-to- end solutions should transcend the boundaries of formal and informal learning, taking the blended approach way beyond simple combinations of the classroom and e-learning.

Onlignment director Clive Shepherd said: “More Than will be promoted through a new book, a series of case study videos, tools and templates, and a free, introductory online course for learning professionals looking to upgrade their design skills.” Onlignment will also provide organisations with the support they need to build capability across whole teams, embed the approach into their everyday practice, and apply it to the design of major new solutions.

Over the next 12 months, e.learning age will be publishing a number of the More Than Blended Learning case studies and videos, and reviewing the book and course as they come available. n http://tinyurl.com/onMTBL

Home Office takes on FGM

A free online training package offering guidance on female genital mutilation (FGM) has been launched by the Home Office. The package, developed with Virtual College, aims to provide help to people such as teachers, doctors and Border Force staff, training them in identifying and assessing girls who may be at risk.

The online software is part of a drive for a more

proactive approach to dealing with FGM, and has been launched with €300,000 of European funding. Home secretary Theresa May highlighted the importance of e-learning technology in raising awareness of FGM. She said: “We are launching

improved multi-agency practice guidelines on how to tackle cases of FGM, a new FGM e-learning package for safeguarding practitioners and a resource pack for commissioners.”

As FGM becomes a prominent issue, with worldwide campaigns launched to prevent violence against women, and a recent study estimating that 137,000 women in England and Wales are affected by it, the training is an opportunity to help raise further awareness. It does so by providing an overview of FGM, the responsibility of professionals in FGM cases, how to support those subjected to it and how to prevent FGM.

Now TV channels Luminosity

Internet television service Now TV has selected CM Group’s Luminosity Reach learning management system (LMS) and Luminosity Studio e-learning authoring platform to help radically change the way it delivers training to its external sales advisers. According to the company, a key element in the selection process was CM Group’s experience of implementing gamification into learning programmes, including the gamification features incorporated into Luminosity Reach as standard. Sales staff who carry out learning activities will now earn points and achievement awards, such as virtual badges, medals and trophies, and a leaderboard will display their position relative to other sales advisors. Luminosity Reach’s Rest API is designed to ensure integration with Now TV’s existing Spotlight training

and communications resource, while new HTML5- based e-learning can be created effectively using Luminosity Studio. The use of HTML5 means the learning can be accessed on a wide range of devices. In addition to SCORM, Luminosity Reach and Luminosity Studio both support Tin Can (Experience API), which will enable Now TV to capture online and offline learning activities, including the completion of quizzes, article views, video plays and document downloads. Ben Long, training manager at Now TV, said:

“Having used Luminosity Reach and Luminosity Studio in previous companies, I know first-hand how intuitive and user-friendly the solutions are. They will let us create and deliver our e-learning programmes much more efficiently and to the highest quality.”
