Vocollect and Upside Learning Solutions won the e-learning team of the year in the 2013 E-Learning Awards through their collaborative Team Gemini
US, it pioneered the use of voice technology in industrial settings. It now has 300,000 users globally working in 35 languages in 60 countries.
Being a leader in a fast moving dynamic industry put considerable pressure on the learning and development (L&D) team. Changing technology means that there is a continual demand to create updated courseware to cover its latest products and services. In addition to training its employees, the nature of Vocollect’s products makes it important to provide training to its partners and their employees, which form a large volume of end-users. Existing bandwidth within the team couldn’t cope, and Vocollect needed a partner to help it meet demand and reduce the burden. This resulted in the company looking for a partner to assist them in the design and development of
their courseware. Upside Learning stepped in at this point to provide its design and development services with an outlook that aligned with Vocollect global training department’s strategic learning initiatives.
Partnership with a difference It’s not unusual for an organisation to approach a partner to provide services, platforms and products. What is unusual is the way that Vocollect and Upside learning approached their partnership. They established Team Gemini consisting of two project managers and six curriculum developers from Vocollect, complemented by four graphic designers, four instructional designers, three programmers, three quality analysts managed by a project director from Upside Learning. The Vocollect team were able to concentrate on the aspects of the Vocollect business that only they knew well and the Upside team provided learning strategy consulting, learning technology assistance and courseware design and services.
