After becoming the first sophomore to win the Tewaaraton and leading Maryland to ACC and NCAA titles last spring, Taylor Cummings officially is an upperclassman for the Terps as fall ball gets underway.
Caitlyn McFadden gave me this stick to try out and it just sits there now. Whenever I don’t feel like going to the locker room, I can go out and use it. . I have 10 other sticks I mainly use.
When we lift, we try to max out on our maxes from the previous year. If you surpass your weight, or someone else takes your spot, you’re given your nameplate. My trainer, Mike Szemborski, handed me that. It’s been on my desk ever since. The number 12 is the year that I broke the record (2012) and 130 was the weight I bench-pressed.
Beth Glaros and I had the same headband. We wore it during the last couple games and all throughout the NCAA tournament. It’s just something between me and Beth. She was my Big Terp on the team, so it was our little connection on the fi eld.
“The Energy Bus” is a book [coach] Cathy [Reese] gave to us last winter break
to read. It’s about communication between teammates, trying to get on the same page. We referenced it a lot throughout the year, being on the same energy bus and making sure everyone worked together. That’s a reminder of who we are and what we all want to do.
I’m a fi nance major, and maybe accounting and marketing double major. I haven’t
decided yet. We had just fi nished fi nals so they were still on my desk. I read those books a lot. Since my dad [Michael] is an investment banker at Wells Fargo, I have been tuned into the business world since I was really young.
I like my room to feel really homey and cozy. I have a tapestry that brings in all this color and takes up some blank space. My favorite thing to do is turn on my Christmas lights that I have hanging on the wall and turn on some candles and just sit there and relax.
I’m more of a fl ip-fl ops and sandals kind of girl. I’m really not one to get super dressed up but when I do get dressed up, I’m defi nitely a wedges kind of person. They’re really comfy and they remind me of summer.
I wear this T-shirt sometimes, but it’s really there to be a daily reminder of what we accomplished and how we left the ACCs.
Those boxes have really important things on them I think people should live by. My best friend Corinne Etchison, who goes to Georgetown, and I have those in our room. It shows that although we might be going to different schools, we still have each other, think of each other and have some part of our rooms that is the same.
