and Regal Princess. The Sanctuary has two massage and treatment areas, and that’s on top of what’s available in the Lotus spa. The newer class of ships also offer the Enclave, a serene and relaxing area of the spa with a hydrotherapy pool, saunas, water beds and heated water beds. Entry comes at a charge.

For adults keen to escape it all – the Solarium is the perfect place. The adult- only area offers peace and serenity in
abundance. The line’s spa offers a plethora of options, but there is also an option for under-18s, which is popular with teens. Agents liked the Vitality programme, which includes activities, seminars and shore excursions such as jungle hikes, biking, nature trails and running tours.

When it comes to relaxation on Viking’s ships, it’s not about the spa and gym because none of the European vessels
have those facilities (the vessel sailing on the Yangtze has a small spa). But that doesn’t mean customers can’t relax on board, with agents raving about the swimming pool and sun deck areas. The Aquavit Terrace was also popular with travel consultants, with its al fresco dining and relaxed feel ticking the boxes when it comes to unwinding onboard.
Sanctuary Retreats
It’s all in the name according to agents who voted for Sanctuary Retreats. Not all of the operator’s nine ships offer spa
treatments, but the ones that do, such as the Ananda and the Yangzi Explorer, tick the boxes. The serene space in the latter’s Huang Ding Spa includes six treatment rooms. Julie Osbourne of Holiday Heat says the facilities are “high spec”.
