It’s time for the Moto 360 smartwatch

THE FIRST Android Wear smartwatch is preparing to hit the wrists of consumers this summer.

The Motorola Moto 360 features a circular screen, which thanks to Android Wear will display contextually- aware information such as nearby points of interest, the weather and sports results.

A choice of metal or leather for the strap is available, with the main body of the watch constructed from metal. The wearable tech will also support voice recognition via its integrated microphone, allowing users to navigate the device, search the web

and control connected devices such as Android TV television sets by speaking to their wrist.

Custom styles and apps for the swipe-driven user interface are also supported, as is connectivity with third-party wearable devices. The watch also includes support for Qi wireless charging.

Unsurprisingly, the 360 supports connection to Android smartphones running Android 4.3 or above, and will display call and text notifi cations, as well as allowing users to reply to any messages and control music playback. Location-aware reminders – such as

“The wristwatch has been through several evolutions since it fi rst became a popular fashion accessory more than 100 years ago,” said Lior Ron, Corporate Vice President of product management at Motorola. “From mechanical to electronic movements, analog to digital faces, the wristwatch has been reinvented several times over, but the basic design has endured for a century because of its elegance and usefulness.” Moto 360 will be available in a variety of styles from summer 2014.
