PUNGENT is the last fl avor and the least enjoyed by Americans. This one helps to nourish your lungs and large intestines. It energetically goes upward and opens into the sinuses. Have you ever put too much wasabi on your sushi and felt your sinuses clear very quickly? That is the pungent fl avor and another example is horseradish. They are the extremes of the pungents while onions, garlic, ginger and leeks are a little more mellow. If you have problems with your lungs, daikon radish is pungent and helps move phlegm build-up in the lungs.
