What’s new Heavy-duty switches

The DH series of heavy‐duty, splash‐ and vandal‐resistant illuminated pushbutton switches fromCIT Relay & Switch is available in 22 and 25mm standard sizes and custom sizes up to 40mm.

The switches are available as momentary

or latching in both SPST and DPST, normally open and normally closed. Flush actuator styles offer non‐illuminated, bi‐color ring illumination or dot illumination. Illumination color choices are red, yellow, green, blue, white and orange. LED voltage choices range from 6 to 220V.

Magnetoresistive sensor ICs

TTI has announced that it will distribute Honeywell’s Nanopower series magnetoresistive sensor ICs. These ultra‐ sensitive devices are designed to accommodate a wide range of applications with large air gaps, small magnetic fields and low power requirements. The sensor ICs respond to either a north or south pole applied in a direction parallel to the sensor. They do not require the magnet polarity to be identified, simplifying installation and potentially reducing system cost.

The ICs have a very low average

current consumption and a push‐pull output, which does not require a pull‐up resistor. They can operate from a supply voltage as low as 1.65V. The series is

available in two magnetic sensitivities: the SM351LT, for applications requiring ultra high magnetic sensitivity (7G typical operate, 11G maximum operate) and a very low current draw (360nA typical); and the SM353LT, for applications requiring very high magnetic sensitivity (14G typical operate, 20G maximum operate) and a very low current draw (310nA typical).

The devices are supplied in the

subminiature SOT‐23 surface mount package on tape and reel (3000 units per reel), for use in automated pick‐and‐ place component installation.

RF power transistors

NXP Semiconductors has announced its ninth generation (Gen9) LDMOS RF power transistors for wireless/cellular base stations. These devices represent a further step‐up in performance for LDMOS transistors, having shown up to 5 per cent more efficiency in Doherty applications.

The first Gen9 transistors are designed

for Doherty power amplifiers – symmetric and asymmetric – and offer benchmark power densities in existing high‐volume packages. The Gen9 technology is also optimized for operation at 3.4 to 3.8GHz in anticipation of these frequency bands being released

on a global scale next year for use by mobile telecoms providers.

With 4G mobile data services now

being rolled out globally, the Gen9 product family is specifically focused on compact, efficient and high‐performance LTE base stations. It is claimed to deliver unprecedented efficiencies and excellent linearization capabilities for RF power amplifiers, at an industry‐ leading cost point.

The 150AV Gen9 device (BLC9G27LS‐

150AV) is sampling now, and several other transistors are being sampled to major OEMs.

OLED text displays fromElectronic Assembly, available from Mouser, can now

be specified with a Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) to expand their application range. Previously, the displays, which are available in ice white and yellow/green, were only supplied with a 4/8 bit data bus.

All displays have a built‐in controller

similar to the HD44780 and run on a single 3.3 or 5V supply. Current consumption is very low, at 15 to 50mA. Four character sets, including special characters, are already stored in the character ROM: English/Japanese, English/Russian (Cyrillic) and two different Western European character sets. Users can also define up to eight of their own characters. Different functions can be programmed with a single command: clear display, cursor home, cursor on/off, cursor blink and shift display.

The displays will run over a wide

operating temperature range of ‐40 to 80°C. Six versions have two rows of 16 characters, either 5.5 or 8.9mm high and three versions offer 2 by 5, 2 by 20 or 4 by 20 characters, all 5.5mm high. The electrical rating of the DH series is 2A

at 24 or 125VAC and 1A at 250VAC. Sealing is IP65. Electrical life is 50,000 cycles with contact resistance of less than 50 milliohms. Dielectric strength is 2000Vrms contact‐to‐ contact and contact‐to‐LED. Insulation resistance is greater than 100Mohms. Actuation force is 550 ± 50gF with actuator travel of 2.5 ± 0.3mm. Operating and storage temperature is ‐25 to 70°C. Lead‐time is six to eight weeks.
