Switches

SWITCHES STILL MATTER

Switches can be seen as performing a basic function, but Sager’s vice president, supplier marketing and product management, Craig Sanderson, explains the sophisticated functionality needed for many of today’s applications

In the world of electronics components, switches remain a valuable and trusted technology. They have been in use for over 100 years, yet over the last decade we have seen a number of new technologies such as sensing, touch screen and voice recognition software challenge switches for placement in new and existing applications.

Sager Electronics is an authorized distributor for many of the industry leaders in switching technology. Together with these manufacturers, we are responding to the technology

challenges we encounter by offering switch products that meet the new expectations of our customers.

In response to these market dynamics

and in order to provide increased value for customers, switch manufacturers have expanded the capability of their products. Many new features from switch manufacturers are becoming more mainstream, including: sealing to prevent contamination or to allow operation in harsh environments; multiple termination options including wire leads; LED illumination to provide flexibility and creativity in panel displays; the development of wireless switching technology to enable the replacement of expensive cable connections; and the creation of more full‐featured and robust switches for today’s systems.

dustproof, environmentally sealed, to hermetically sealed. These options eliminate the need to worry about switch operation once installed and are becoming more prevalent in all applications.

• LED illuminated switches from EAO, Carling Technologies, ITW Switches, Omron, OTTO Engineering, SAIA Burgess, Schneider Electric, Schurter and TE Connectivity can create a signature look or customization in applications that require it.

• All of our switch suppliers offer termination choices that include PCB & SMT, solder/screw/QC terminals, wire leads and connectorized options. These options allow for design flexibility and ease of manufacturing or assembly.

• Wireless switch products from Cherry Electrical/ZF, Honeywell Sensing & Control and Schneider Electric enable the user to install these devices without the use of cables, eliminating the material cost and labor associated with switch installations in industrial and harsh environments.
