CTC WELCOME!
Embrace the summer with the with the CTC!
THE summer is here! July 1 marked Canada Day, a celebration of all
things Canadian across Canada and we hope that this issue of Selling Canada will help you celebrate all things Canadian as we move into the prime summer holiday season. The last few months have been exciting for Canada, with the opening of the new Glacier Sky walk (
glacierskywalk.ca/) in Alberta in mid- May (see page 15) and the new Hornblower Cruise (niagaracruises. com) replacing the Maid of the Mist at Niagara starting this spring too. The development of new attractions shows Canada’s commitment to keep improving the visitor experience. We also want to ensure we continue to enhance and improve the knowledge of our Canada Specialists signed up to our award-winning agents’ training programme. With this in mind we are getting
ready for the first two dates in a series of six planned Canada road shows for travel agents and tour operator reservation staff. The first are on August 12 and 14 in Manchester and London respectively. For details on how to attend see the story above. Interested in attending? Register your
interest at
visitcanada@dial.pipex.com. Space is limited but the road shows are a great way to connect with the key suppliers who sell Canada. We hope to see you there!

04 SUMMER 2014 • SELLING CANADA
UK travellers took 589,000 overnight trips to Canada last year, down 1.3% on 2012, and although visitor numbers in March dwindled by 18.2% to 30,931 the CTC remains confident that figures will rebound later in the year. “The March figures were skewed by the fact that the Easter holidays fell in late April this year, unlike 2013," said Rupert Peters, Vice-President of International and CTC’s UK Manager. Speaking in Vancouver at the Rendez-vous trade show, he added: "I am quietly confident that we will see an increase in UK numbers of between two and three per cent, based on my conversations with tour operators. “Study after study shows that Canada has one of the most desirable brands in the world but our challenge is a longstanding one: to convert the
potential six million-plus Brits who say they will 'definitely' or 'very likely' visit Canada from ‘I’ll see Canada one day to I’ll see Canada now’, he added. Peters said the CTC’s tour operator and travel agent partners ‘are vital’ to these projections. “We plan to engage them in more
ways than ever before this year, through road shows, workshops, webinars and other online activities. "We will be inviting agents to more
events, and in 2015 UK agents will again comprise the largest contingent on our Mega Fam," Peters added. See our Rendez-vous review, pages 14/15.
