RETAIL TECHNOLOGY

Cheryl Taylor, talks to Ian Tomlinson, Managing Director of retail technology provider Cybertill

Cybertill iPad

Please outline your company history? Cybertill was founded in 2001 and was the world’s first cloud based integrated EPoS and ecommerce system.

Kindly describe your main products/systems? Cybertill provides a cloud-based EPoS and ecommerce system. Cloud based means that the software is hosted online and that users connect via a broadband connection. This gives retailers several advantages: stock levels are visible and live across the business so customers can be confident that stock showing online is available.

The EPoS system helps retailers manage their

business, such as stock levels, staff management, loyalty programmes and the ecommerce system integrates with the EPoS system so retailers can manage their store and website as one.

How many systems do you build/install a year? Cybertill has over 4,500 systems in use across the UK, from small independents to large national retailers. We also have over 300 websites in use across the UK.

What are the most important issues that footwear retailers face and how do you help them solve these? Whilst every business is different there are three broad areas that affect most retailers and these are:

Stock – carrying the right stock lines and levels

is critical across the seasons, especially for footwear retailers who have to ensure they carry the right mix of sizes too. Footwear retailers can check past sales or use the algorithms that will

help calculate the right quantity of stock required. Retailers can compare sales year on year, month by month and so forth. They can use a sales analysis tool so they can compare sales by line, brand, size, colour and so forth. They can delve as deep as they wish into the analysis of their business.

Loyalty – every retailer needs a loyal customer

base. Cybertill comes with options of different loyalty programmes. These can help increase customer frequency and average basket values. You can profile your customers in Cybertill, track their transactional history both in-store and online and from that create tiered loyalty programmes.

Multi-Channel Management – today’s

consumers demand convenience. That means click and collect and the ability to shop as and when they can. Retailers need to offer a seamless retail experience both online and in-store. Consumers don’t make distinguish between independents or multiples they want great service. Cybertill can help indie footwear retailers offer the same service levels as multi-channel leaders, such as John Lewis.

Why should footwear retailers buy your systems? Cybertill is used by many footwear retailers both large and small including: Rupert Sanderson, Daniel Footwear, Hopscotch Shoes, Cockerill Shoes, New Balance and many, many more

Cybertill will manage every aspect of their

business whilst delivering real financial benefits such as improved cash flow, increase in sales and profits.

In the last 12 months the most recent customer is Harris Footwear of Kent.

Do you provide free on-site training for your customers/staff? We provide on-site training for all customers, we believe that face to face training delivers better

results all round than training delivered online or over the phone. We do charge for our training, however we do provide free video tutorials online within the Cybertill system.

How often is your software upgraded? We upgrade our software free of charge every two months. And as it is cloud based the retailer doesn’t have to do anything, we automate everything.

Are there any trends/new innovations we should know about? Do you have plans for the future you can share with us? Mobility is a big buzz word at the moment. Mobile site and mobile PoS. Cybertill can be deployed on an iPad and carried round the shop floor. So staff can check stock when they are with the customer, they can also collect customer information and at busy times queue bust with a tablet in their hand.

Cybertill offers responsive websites rather than mobile sites. A responsive site fits to the size of the screen it is being displayed on. So if a customer is looking at a website on a mobile phone the site will appear like a mobile site. If they look at it on a laptop it will appear as a ‘normal’ website. This means retailers only need a single site that work on mobiles, tablets and laptops.

Shoppers demand convenience and all retailers

need to be offering services such as click and collect. Independents offer such a personal service compared to many multiples if they can begin to offer the wrap around convenient services such as click and collect they can compete with the larger chains. Cybertill enables retailers to offer a variety of ways to buy and return goods.
