BACK TO CONTENTS Retail IPO
Director, KPMG Makinson Cowell by TIM METZGEN
The owners of the retailers on the UK’s high streets are continuing to consider the IPO as the primary exit route, notwithstanding the increased questioning of this market’s viability.
R
etail has been the hot sector in terms of UK IPOs (Conviviality, Bonmarché, McColl’s, AO World, Koovs, Poundland, Boo, Pets at Home, Card Factory, B&M, Shoe Zone, Game) with, at the time of writing this article, more to come (DFS, M&M, Wiggle), but
with a number deferring fl otation (Fat Face, The Hut). It is worth refl ecting on how these newly listed companies have performed in share price terms since IPO, before considering what can be learnt from this by those considering a listing.
