Marcus Roberts & and The Modern Jazz Generation

“We call him the genius of modern piano, because he is.” —Wynton Marsalis

Friday, October 24 at 8 pm $42/$33/$24

Marcus Roberts is famous for his dazzling, virtuosic playing that taps the full range of the jazz piano tradition, from Scott Joplin to Cecil Taylor and beyond. In this performance, Roberts unveils the Modern Jazz Generation, a 12-piece ensemble that features Roberts’ trio mates Jason Marsalis (drums) and Rodney Jordan (bass), Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra trumpeter Marcus Printup, trombonist extraordinaire Ronald Westray, and a number of next-generation jazz greats. The group blasts through an evening-length original composition, Romance, Swing, and the Blues, improvising wildly while maintaining a tight, powerful, and rhythmic sound.

Presented in association with the Office of the Vice President for Human Resources, Diversity and Multicultural Affairs through the UVM President’s Initiative for Diversity.
