❙ Makroblend EL4000 is a new PC/PBT blend from Bayer MaterialScience formulated to resist the increasingly aggressive disinfecting agents used in hospitals and other medical environments to counter hospital-acquired infections (HFI). In addition to improved chemical resist- ance, the new grade also offers a V-0/5VA flame retard- ance rating at 3.0mm, good flow and high tensile modulus. www.materialscience.bayer.com

❙ US-based Struktol has launched a new line of polymer compatibiliser/ lubricant packages aimed at improving performance of engineering plastics compounds containing high levels of recycled content. Struktol TR229 is intended for use with PC, PC/ABS blends, PA6 and PA6,6; Struktol TR219 is formulated for use with PA6 and PA6,6 and PET compounds. The additives help with the incorporation of fillers and reinforcements while improving mixing, flow and mould release, according to the company. www.struktol.com

❙ Tec-Flon is a new range of non-hydrocarbon silicone- free lubricants from the Solid Technical Solutions division of US-based Tectorius. intended for use with plastic assemblies that will be used in paint shop applications. The fluorinated oil and grease-based products are said to remain effective at elevated temperatures. www.tectorius.com

DSM extends Akulon PA6 range with two new grades

DSM has announced two new additions to its range of UV-stabilised glass fibre reinforced Akulon PA6 resins for production of paint-free visible structural automotive components.

Launched at the JSAE

Automotive Engineering Expo in Yokohama in Japan and available globally, the first new grade is a 50% glass reinforced resin intended for production of exterior mirror bases. It is said to provide an excellent surface quality even in complex moulding applications. The second new addition is

30% glass reinforced and is aimed at applications such as production of gas assisted moulded door handles. The company says the two

PROTOTYPING Solvay reinforces SLS options

Solvay Engineering Plastics has introduced a 40% glass reinforced PA6 powder intended for use in selective laser sintering (SLS) additive

manufacturing systems. The new addition to the

company’s Sinterline family of SLS powders is intended to meet demands for high

performance functional prototypes or for series part production using additive manufacturing techniques. The 40% glass reinforced

grade provides superior mechanical performance under demanding thermal conditions, according to Solvay. It offers a tensile modulus of 6300 MPa at 23°C while parts built with it display a porosity level of just 1.8%. Surface finish and resolution is similar to unfilled Sinterline grades, the company says. ❙ www.solvay.com
