off-the-beaten-track activities which broadened our minds to what more the destination has to offer. This will help me to think outside the box as to who I offer the destination to and the variety of experiences I offer.” Dave Emmerson, Holiday Getaway

F

unway Holidays will host 10 fam trips this year to give agents fi rst hand experience of the products they are selling. Read about the three most recent fams here:

CALIFORNIA: Funway's first-timers fam took 10 agents who had never been to the state before on an action-packed trip to experience the Golden State.

The trip marked the launch of Funway’s first standalone California brochure (launched October 2013) and participants won their place through a fun ‘Master Chef’ competition run by Funway Holidays, Visit California and United Airlines.

The food theme continued throughout the fam with an emphasis placed on showcasing California’s cuisine. The group learnt to make cocktails and then jetted off

Francisco, flying with United

Airlines, for three nights in Sacramento at the Residence Inn Capital Park. Here they toured the Passmore Ranch sustainable fish farm and had lunch on the Delta King Riverboat before enjoying a special beer tasting activity and brewery tour at New Helvetia Brewing. Next stop was Sonoma for two nights staying at the Flamingo Resort & Spa where highlights included a Farm-To-Table Food Tour and another two wine tasting tours at Francis Ford Coppola Winery and the Benziger Family Winery.

The group

also experienced an African Safari with giraffes, gazelles, zebras, oryx, antelopes, cape buffalo, wildebeests and more. The trip ended back in San Francisco where they stayed at the Radisson Hotel Fisherman’s Wharf, took a city tour by bus, cycled over the Golden Gate Bridge and enjoyed a boat cruise with breathtaking

to San views of the waterfront, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the notorious Alcatraz Island.

NEW YORK: In partnership

with Virgin Atlantic, Funway showed nine agents just how easy it is to explore New York on a short break. Joining a four-day trip, the travel agent group spent two nights at the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel followed by two nights at the Westin New York Grand Central. The itinerary began with an open top

bus city tour and other highlights included a Spirit Dinner Cruise; a shopping trip to Woodbury Common Premium Outlet Mall; a night at La Boheme Opera in the Lincoln Centre Opera House and time at

the

Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art. The group also visited New York TV and movie sites, went

up the Empire State

Observatory, and sampled authentic New York foods.

FLORIDA: Funway’s top selling UK agents joined a trip to Florida exploring gorgeous beaches,

bargain-filled shops, unique

architecture, varied wildlife and of course an unrivalled choice of amusement parks! Highlights included meeting alligators, raccoons and otters, visiting Seaworld, Walt Disney World, Universal and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay with thrills including a trip on the new ‘Falcon’s Fury’. The

group also tried iFLY Indoor also tried iFL

Skydiving, took a winter park scenic boat tour and visited the DALI Museum and Florida Aquarium.

FLORIDA FAM “As a fi rst time visitor I learnt a lot.

Previously all I was aware of was the parks but now I realise just talking about these is a disservice to my customers. Now I will always recommend winding down in Tampa after the parks." Theresa Linton, Theresa Linton Business Travel

NEW YORK FAM “Since the fam, I’ve already made my

fi rst New York booking to the Warwick Hotel through Funway, with a Niagara overnight trip stopping at Woodbury Common. The experience of the destina- tion really helped bring it all alive for the client." Susan Kinton, Peakes Travel

“New York defi nitely exceeded my

expectations. It was the best educational by far I have ever been on.” Sophie Reynolds, Bath Travel
