Builders Merchant At Cutting Edge
Of Charity fundraising Chandlers Builders Merchants is giving customers the chance to purchase special items in aid of its appeal to raise £50,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. £1 from the sale of special Chandlers £50k Challenge saws and tapes measures, and 50p from the sale of the appeal’s
builders’ pencils will go towards the charity campaign. The appeal is in honour of Chandlers’ employee Rob Sadler, a Cystic Fibrosis sufferer himself. Rob not only marked 30 years
of Chandlers employment last year, but more significantly turned 50 in December; those with Cystic Fibrosis are not expected to live beyond their 30s. Richard Skinner, Commercial Director at Chandlers Building Supplies, commented: “So far a fantastic £28,000 has been raised for the Chandlers £50k Challenge, which we are all thrilled about. The Cystic
Fibrosis Trust is a fantastic charity that has really helped our colleague Rob. £1,300 of that total has been raised from people purchasing the charity items and we would like to thank everyone who bought a saw, tape measure or pencil.”

Obituary – Colin May
After a long fight with cancer Colin May finally lost his battle on 14th April at the age of 69. Many will mourn the passing of a widely known and respected figure in the hardware and tools trade. For some years Colin was a member of the sales force of the national wholesaler Johnson Gibbons. But it was undoubtedly as Sales Director of A.
B. Salmens, manufacturers and importers of hand and measuring tools, that many of us remember him and where he made his mark. Then, starting in 1992, Colin continued to strengthen his standing and reputation as a Sales Agent in southern England for a number of manufacturers and importers. In l998 he set up the UK depot for LFA Drill Chucks. Colin’s hallmark was his integrity and reputation for straight dealing. Many of his customers and trade associates vividly remember how this was
coupled with his sharp wit and a dry sense of humour – a feature from which the writer of this obituary was not immune! A moving service for Colin took place at Chichester Crematorium on 29th April. It was led by members of his family and attended by a large
number of friends, including a group of his long-standing trade colleagues who had travelled from various parts of the country. Colin will be sorely missed among those who knew him in the trade. He leaves behind his wife Elizabeth, two sons and two grandchildren. Obituary supplied by Alan Hughes
