Speed Aventura Ferrari Land announced for PortAventura

The rumours of a Ferrari theme park in Spain had been circulating for some time, and Ferrari World Abu Dhabi even used the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona a few years ago to promote its own park in the Middle East. But now PortAventura has stepped forward and announced that is has reached a licensing agreement with Ferrari to build a compact but high octane branded park at its famous resort on the Costa Dorada. Expected to open during 2016, the €100 million+ Ferrari Land will be a 75,000 square metre park, representing less than 10% of the existing PortAventura park. It will feature a handful of rides – including the tallest and fastest vertical launch coaster in Europe – alongside a sleek 250- room premium hotel, restaurants, shops and simulated car races. The deal with Ferrari, voted the world’s most powerful brand for the second consecutive year in the Brand Finance Global 500 report, marks the latest and arguably most high profile step in

PortAventura's effort to consolidate its position as a leading European destination resort. Currently its theme park, waterpark and four on-site hotels attract an annual visitation of almost 4 million, nearly half that coming from outside Spain. Ferrari Land, which will be sited just beyond the existing PortAventura holiday village, will feature its own gate and a separate admission fee. “Since entry we implemented a long term plan supported by well-known international brands to increase visitors to approximately 5 million yearly and to transform PortAventura into the best destination resort in Europe,” notes PortAventura executive chairman Sergio Feder. “Ferrari is an obvious choice not only for the values the brand represents, but also for their experience in the Ferrari World Abu Dhabi theme park. For us, it is also an honour to collaborate with such a worldwide recognised brand”. “Ferrari Land will appeal to entire families as well as Formula One supporters,” says Ferrari brand managing director Andrea Perrone, adding that PortAventura and owner Investindustrial boasts a skilled and experienced experienced team. “We will continue to further look at the launch of additional Ferrari theme parks outside of Europe with no rush, while continuing to maximise the value of our prestigious brand without diluting it.” New at PortAventura for 2014 will be the Angkor themed interactive boat ride and a summer performance of Cirque du Soleil’s Kooza show, paving the way a possible permanent base for the Canadian live entertainment giant.

portaventura.com Adlabs Imagica update

India’s first international level theme park, Adlabs Imagica near Mumbai/Pune, is launching five new kids’ attractions for 2014.

Zooballoo features a band of five animals playing music and splashing tonnes of water, and The Detective Bow Wow Show is billed as India’s first live interactive theatre where young audience members can chat, Turtle Talk style, in real time with an animated character on screen. Happy Wheelss (sic) is a driving school attraction hopefully not as chaotic as the traffic on Mumbai’s roads, Humpty’s Fall is a 10m- high kids’ drop tower with a turning gondola, while Wagon Wheel is, you’ve guessed it, a mini Ferris wheel. The latter three attractions are being provided by the SBF/Visa Group Since it opened in February 2013, Adlabs Imagica has been hosting crowds as high as 20,000 per day, many of whom choose to take part in the aquatic activities in the park – no wonder given the sweltering local temperatures. Ensuring guests play in safe, clean and clear water is a Defender filtration system from Neptune Benson – the American company’s first installation on the subcontinent
