What will you be able to see if you look out of the window while riding the Hogwarts Express from Islands of Adventure to Universal Studios Orlando? In reality the journey between the two parks is not
particularly scenic, most of it passing through the
Universal Orlando backlot, but thanks to state-of-the-art
multimedia a magical adventure will unfold before guests’ eyes.
As they take their seats in a real steam- hauled train, passengers will see an animated version of the English countryside come to life on screens mounted inside the windows of the carriages. Passengers will see Hagrid come alongside the train on his flying motorbike, Buckbeak the Hippogriff swoop gracefully over Black Lake, the Weasley twins on broomsticks, the Knight Bus swerving through London traffic, and other special effects and surprises. The ‘show’ will be different in each direction, but to experience it Universal Orlando guests must have a park-to-park pass retailing at $166.15, or $208.75 for a two-day pass (cheaper online).
The Hogwarts Express will link The
Wizarding World of Harry Potter’s Hogsmeade area at Islands of Adventure with the new Diagon Alley extension at Universal Studios, where as well as a replica London King’s Cross station and multiple retail opportunities, guests will be able to enjoy the Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringots ride.

Kolmården, located about an hour from Stockholm, is to develop a 20,000 square metre area called Bamses Värld (Bamse’s World), dedicated to the locally popular animated bear. To bring the land to life, parent company Parks and Resorts Scandinavia has signed a deal with Dutch design group Jora Vision, which three years ago themed the park’s elaborate Kolmården Safari cable car attraction. The park’s natural surroundings, with hills and woods, offer a perfect setting for this magical new world. Set to open in May 2015, it will feature four themed rides, play areas, water play areas, restaurants, shops and an amphitheatre where Jora Entertainment will produce a Bamse show. “The Bamse IP was already in use by
Kolmården,” explains Jora Vision creative director
Sjors van Roosmalen. “Expanding it to an entire area seemed very natural: the character from the comic books, recently brought to life in a movie, not only lives in a Swedish forest which looks similar to Kolmården’s scenery, he also reflects timeless values that visitors, young and old, can relate to.”
Bobbejaanland turns blue!
“Two well-known Belgian names are joining forces: a perfect match!” declared Bobbejaanland general manager Roland Kleve as he announced the park’s new inhabitants for 2014: The Smurfs.
The park in Lichtaart will welcome its new little blue friends as the result of an exclusive deal with IMPS. So, as from this season, Bobbejaanland will be the only amusement park in the country where guests can meet the popular characters on a daily basis as they participate in live shows and pose for
photos with their fans. Founded by the late country music star Bobbejaan Schoepen and now run by Parques Reunidos, the park enjoys a rich history of live entertainment. “We want to emphasise that nothing will change about the spirit that Bobbejaan Schoepen gave to the park: we will still be Bobbejaanland, and we do not plan to become Smurfland,” adds Kleve, a former Disneyland Paris executive.
The Smurfs, known locally as Les Daniel Tiger is here
to stay at Idlewild The Pennsylvania amusement park Idlewild is extending its relationship with the Fred Rogers Company to ensure the character Daniel Tiger remains a fixture of the park for years to come. The star of the award-winning animated preschool series Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood on PBS Kids, Daniel will appear at the park this season for daily meet-and-greet sessions, but as
from 2015 a new themed attraction is planned along with a live action show. Idlewild first partnered with Fred Rogers Company in 1989, developing a trolley ride that took visitors to the “Neighborhood of Make-Believe.” The attraction concluded its 25- year of operation at the end of last season.

Schtroumpfs, were created by the late Belgian comic artist Peyo, and were the stars of an animated movie as recently as last year. The characters have previously appeared at theme parks in France and the USA. No Smurf-themed rides are planned for Bobbejaanland but, according to a park spokesperson, a big new attraction is on the way for 2015. The 2014 season starts on Saturday 5 April.
