Festival of Fantasy Disney debuts new parade
Guests at Disney’s Magic Kingdom in Florida can now enjoy a new parade, featuring Disney and Pixar characters galore. Performed daily alongside Mainstreet USA, the Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade features nearly 100 performers – on stilts, swings and flying rigs. Families will witness a fire-breathing dragon, a pirate ship with smoking cannons, a music box that’s
a seashell, bubble girls with cotton candy hair, a mega-sized bagpipe and more. Alongside evergreens such as Peter Pan and Cinderella, there’s more modern fare including Brave, Tangled and, making their Disney parade debuts, characters from the current animated movie Frozen. Disney Festival of Fantasy parade is, we are told, the first of a new generation of parades for Disney parks featuring new technology and effects to bring its seven floats to life. The dramatic costumes worn by performers were crafted at 10 design houses across the USA. An original soundtrack inspired by popular Disney films was composed by Mark Hammond, who also worked on the Thea Award-winning World of Color fountain show at Disney California Adventure. “The parade is visually stunning, like mini Broadway shows rolling down the street!” beams Randy Wojcik, senior show director for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.
Carrot power! How does Liseberg power the rides and attractions
inside its Kaninlandet (Rabbit Land) children’s area? Electricity of course, but don’t tell that to the kids. Pictured here is the carrot juicing machine at the famous park in Gothenburg, Sweden, the juice from which apparently makes the rides go! This fun feature is one of many scenic elements and animations completed over the years at Liseberg by Meticulous Ltd, which also created the
park’s Christmas characters, produced various ride signage and even redesigned its famous rabbit mascot last season. The theming firm, based in Leicester, England, recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. Founded by partners Dan Tippetts and Dean Weal using the production facilities of their former employer Farmer Studios, clients include Drayton Manor, Sundown Adventureland, Santa Park, London’s Natural History Museum and many more. The company is currently working on theming for the new Hello Kitty Secret Garden at Drusillas, UK. No doubt it will be paying Meticulous attention to detail.
meticulousltd.co.uk What a lot of Lego bricks!
The world’s largest Lego model has touched down at Legoland Deutschland in Bavaria. Built from 5.3 million little plastic bricks, the Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter arrived at the German park in six containers after being shipped from the USA, where it previously appeared at Legoland California. Featuring a wingspan of 13 metres, the pieces are pictured here being unpacked by truck drivers. Legoland Deutschland is situated in the town of Günzburg and the season starts 5 April.
16 APRIL 2014 Hippo spotted in East
London leisure centre This interactive play platform was installed recently at Leyton Leisure centre in East London by Hippo Leisure. The bright and colourful attraction is already encouraging more families to use the council-run facilities.
The three-tier platform is suitable for children of all ages and abilities.
Toddlers enjoy racing each other down the small slides into the shallow beach pool, where they can play with the splash toys including an interactive snake squirt, a mini mast and channel. Tipping buckets, spraying water wheels and shark showers add to the fun, meanwhile a 48m-long anaconda flume slide takes riders on a journey around the pool hall, outside the building and then plunges them back into the leisure pool.
A custom fabricated aqua play panel fixed to the pool wall encourages interaction and development through educational puzzles and tactile features. These low level features are great in encouraging children of all ages who lack water confidence.
