Dennis does Doha ITPS chosen for Qatar park project
What International Theme Park Services’ (ITPS) president Dennis Speigel describes as: “one of the largest, most complex and complicated projects we’ve ever worked on,” will open in Qatar in 2017. Adventure Island will be a $300 million indoor park at the Doha Oasis Mall, and ITPS is acting as lead consultant on the project for the Halul Real Estate Investment Company.
“It will be a seven-acre indoor theme park along the lines of a Mall of America,” continues Speigel, whose company claims to have consulted on or constructed more than 500 amusement parks in around 50 countries. “The entertainment component of the complex will be first class,” says Halul project director Hasan Abu Rub, adding that the company has chosen
Premier Rides to deliver a signature rollercoaster in the dark called Dragonfire. “Premier’s innovation and quality is evident in their work for other clients such as Universal Studios and together we will create for our visitors a one-of-a-kind world-class attraction.” Premier Rides will employ many different technologies on the rides including magnetic launches, high speed switches and multi-directional movement of the vehicles. Additionally the attraction features a unique backwards launch where riders are shot up an extremely high vertical twisting spike that rises above the mall to allow guests to take in the view and appreciate just how high above the building they are – all while remaining in a climate- controlled environment!
Riding the Wave at Morey’s
Morey’s Piers kicks off its 2014 season soon in Wildwood, New Jersey, with a brand new version of a classic on its Mariner’s Landing Pier. The 48-seat Wave Swinger by Zierer, replacing the original version that had been there for 35 years, stands 11ft (3.4m) higher and boasts panels displaying 72 scenes representing Wildwood history. Black and white photos of the Starlight Ballroom and Ocean Pier, along with coloured shots of The Flyer and Planet of the Apes attractions are some of the images depicted courtesy of the Wildwood Historical Society.
This “spinning art gallery” will swing its passengers 50ft (15 m) above the beach when in motion. Also new on the pier will be The Taco Joint, capturing the flavours of Mexico with a Southern California twist. Mariner’s Landing is one three piers and two waterparks operated in Wildwood by the Morey family. The season starts on 12 April.
Premier Rides’ Jim Seay shakes on the deal with Dennis Speigel of ITPS
“Qatar is one of the most exciting places to be in the world right now,” notes Premier Rides president Jim Seay. “The development is unprecedented and combined with the preparations for the 2022 World Cup, there is a tremendous amount of energy. We are extremely honoured to be part of what is happening there.”
