FRESH IDEAS

IN THE NORDIC COUNTRIES

Europe’s Nordic countries offer a host of exciting adventures and activities to help agents sell these five countries. Here is a round-up of 10 great suggestions

1 THE MARGUERITE ROUTE

Much of Denmark’s picturesque, rolling scenery of unspoiled farmland, forests, heaths and pristine coastline can be enjoyed on the picturesque 3,600km Marguerite Route. Marked by characteristic marguerite (daisy) road- signs, the route was designed to take in some of Denmark’s most scenic countryside and prettiest towns and villages. VisitDenmark has now launched an English-language

website (visitdenmark.co.uk/selfdrive) providing accessible details of the Marguerite Route to British holidaymakers. The route itself is broken down into manageable sections as it passes through each region of Denmark, with attractions to enjoy along the way and downloadable E-brochures and Google maps available for each one, including accommodation suggestions.

2 LOVE ON A BIKE North Sealand, north of Copenhagen and known as

the ‘Danish Riviera’ boasts some of Denmark’s finest sandy beaches. The area is also popular with royalty, has numerous castles and historic buildings as well as woodland, refreshing lakes and green open landscapes. It offers the perfect terrain for cycling and has a network

of well-marked and safe cycle paths tourists can follow on itineraries such as those featured in a new series of ‘Love on a Bike’ three- or four-day mini-breaks. Clients can explore Elsinore, towered over by Kronborg Castle, immortalised in Shakespeare’s Hamlet, and then cycle on to the beautiful Renaissance, Frederiksborg Castle, surrounded by an Italianate Baroque garden and visit Fredensborg Palace nearby. There’s also the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, monasteries, picturesque fi shing villages and fi ne white sand beaches.

3 MIDNIGHT SUN PADDLING

As Finland is located on the top of the world, your clients can experience the midnight sun like nowhere else. In Lapland the sun doesn’t set for 70 consecutive days, giving many more hours to experience nature. A great way to explore its 180,000-plus lakes is canoeing to see the sun that never sets. Lake Lammasjärvi guided canoeing excursions in two-person canoes around the islands are followed by coffee and snacks on Harakkasaari Island. Available in June and July tours are from €45pp. wildtaiga.fi
