The Challenges of CP5 – Building Tomorrow’s Railway

On Thursday 10 April, the Derby & Derbyshire Rail Forum (DDRF) holds its annual conference, an event now firmly established as one of the major events in the railway industry’s calendar.

T

he event is being held at the Derbyshire County Cricket Club, The Marquee, Derby.

A range of very high-profile speakers has already been confirmed. They are:

• Patrick McLoughlin, Secretary of State for Transport;

• Clare Moriarty, Director General Rail at the Department for Transport;

• Martin Griffiths, CEO of Stagecoach Group; • Michael Roberts, Director General of the Rail Delivery Group,

• Patrick Butcher, Finance Director, Network Rail; and

• Maggie Simpson, Director General of the Rail Freight Group.

Rupert Brennan Brown, a spokesman for the DDRF, which represents more than 100

rail-related businesses in the East Midlands, said: “This is a key event for the local rail industry, and the calibre of speakers shows just how highly the local supply chain is regarded by the wider rail industry.

“Our annual conference will take place just days into the new Control Period, which lasts five years and will see billions of pounds invested in improving the railways for both passenger and freight customers. This is a major opportunity for all those interested in the future of the railway network to understand what this massive level of investment will mean to both suppliers and users of Britain’s railway.”

Advanced registrations are being taken for the DDRF Annual Conference by forum co-ordinator Debbie Cook by

email: debbie.cook@derby.gov.uk

The Pre-Conference Dinner will be held on 9 April, when the speaker will be Lilian Greenwood MP, shadow minister for transport. More information on page 70.

The DDRF is also celebrating 175 years since the railway arrived in Derby. A spokesman said: “Take-up and support for this has been overwhelming with Network Rail, East Midlands Trains,

Interfleet,

Porterbrook, Dellner, RVEL and a host of other companies backing the initiative and adopting the Derby 175 programme and logo.”

The programme, which is constantly being updated, can be found at derby175.co.uk. To discuss how to get involved, email: rupert@railpr.com
