AFS President’s Session: Putting a Face on the Safety Statistics


Statistics show that the metalcast- ing industry has nearly three times the accident rate of other manufacturing industries, and during the past 10 years there have been 71 deaths at metalcast- ing facilities. A panel of metalcasting managers who have experienced an accidental death in their facility will dis- cuss the incident, the emotions and the changes to implement to make sure it never happens again. Te panel modera- tor will be Ted Shorn, Enkei America Inc. Participants will be Tom Riordan, Neenah Foundry; John Torrance, Tor- rance Casting; Bruce Tesch, Waupaca Tell City; and AFS President Dennis Dotson, Dotson Iron Castings.

able to market itself and the products it produces to its customers, the next gen- eration of employees and the communi- ties in which its facilities reside. Unfortu- nately, this has not always been done in


a consistent fashion across the industry. Hoyt Lecturer Kathy Hayrynen, Applied Process Inc., will discuss the importance of marketing and suggest some actions for the industry to take.
