Winning the In-house Payroll Team of the Year as awarded by the professional body of payroll is a major accolade and has proved highly motivational for the whole team. We are delighted that the hard work of all team members over the past two years in configuring and implementing a new payroll system, whilst delivering other major projects and still achieving excellent standards of business as usual service to customers, has been recognised. The award means a great deal to all in Royal Mail Pay Service. Len Watson, Head of Pay Services, Royal Mail

Nominations will be open for the following awards:

Individual of the year This category is awarded to the individual

working in payroll and/or pensions who has made significant improvements to their employing organisation and demonstrated their commitment to personal and professional development.

Manager of the year Despite the title of this award, the recipient

does not have to manage a team – they could be responsible for managing a particular project within the organisation. The manager of the year does have to work in a payroll and/or pensions environment and will have made a positive contribution to the employing organisation, as well as demonstrated their commitment to personal and professional development.

Consultant of the

year The CIPP has developed this award to recognise its members who are self-employed consultants in the industry and their contribution to payroll and/or pensions.

In-house payroll team of

the year Re-designed for 2014, this award recognises the in-house payroll team committed to delivering an efficient, effective and compliant payroll service for their employing organisation. The winners of this award will be able to demonstrate their commitment to customer service and evidence initiatives undertaken over

and above the ‘day job’ to improve team performance and staff morale.

Project of the year 2013/14 was a year for undertaking

projects in payroll, whether through RTI, implementing new payroll software or developing a flexible benefits programme. This award recognises the person and/ or team that has successfully undertaken a project either as an employee or as a consultant acting on behalf of an organisation. The winner of this award will demonstrate the need for the project as well as evidence how the success of the project was measured.

Most effective approach

to automatic enrolment Whether you have ‘gone live’ with automatic enrolment or not, this award recognises best practice in your approach to automatic enrolment. Judges will be looking for evidence that you have effectively planned and communicated automatic enrolment within your organisation, as well as having effective measures to assess and monitor your workforce.

Payroll giving award Payroll giving has been highly publicised

recently, and the CIPP is committed to raising the profile of this important initiative within organisations. Working with a number of charities, the CIPP has developed the payroll giving award to recognise organisations that can

demonstrate commitment to payroll giving, communicating the importance to employees and therefore high employee engagement. The award will focus on the promotion and uptake of the scheme more than the implementation process and is therefore open to any organisation that has a payroll giving scheme, regardless of how long it has been in place.

Payroll software

product of the year This award recognises a payroll software product that exceeds the expectations of its end users. The winner will demonstrate that they keep up to date with changes in the industry and communicate to customers, and develop their software in line with the changes. The recipient of this award will have evidence of effective measures and excellent customer service.

Payroll service provider

of the year For 2014 this award will be split into two, focussing on service providers with fewer than 500 client payrolls, and the second focussing on service providers with more than 500 client payrolls. The winner of this award will be committed to delivering excellent customer service and will have high retention as a result. They will be committed to delivering best practice in payroll through the training and development of their payroll staff, and will have evidence of appropriate accreditations to demonstrate this.
