22 Swimming Teacher Rescue Award

RLSS UK’s National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC) is the leading safety supervision award for swimming teachers and swimming coaches. The award trains the practical Lifesaving skills (both preventative and reactive) that may be needed by anyone teaching or coaching swimming or another programmed activity in the pool.

The National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC)

PB0856A | £15.50

Whether you help out with the local swimming school lessons or coach the GB Olympic squad, your number one priority must always be the safety of swimmers in your charge. Achieving the NRASTC qualifi cation enables swimming teachers and coaches to teach with the confi dence that they have taken appropriate training to operate safely – both in terms of preventative knowledge (for example, pool safety operating procedures and identifying potential hazards) and reactive rescue skills (able to perform safe, prompt and eff ective rescues if needed in an emergency). A swimming teacher holding a NRASTC is there to assist a qualifi ed lifeguard (NPLQ) if a pool emergency were to take place and, in some cases, can teach small classes in pools which do not have lifeguard supervision (dependent on risk assessments). Please note - the NRASTC qualifi cation is NOT a lifeguard qualifi cation.

The handbook is the mandatory resource for candidates undertaking the NRASTC qualifi cation (includes a Candidate Assessment Form). The course combines learning and practical elements culminating in: • A theory examination testing knowledge of areas such as Risk Assessment and Pool Hazards.

• A practical Life Support test to demonstrate lifesaving and CPR skills. • A practical Water Rescue test.

The NRASTC qualifi cation is valid for two years. The award is endorsed by the Amateur Swimming Association, the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management and the Institute of Swimming Teachers and Coaches.
